Busy life finally parted just long enough for me to note that the spokes on my bicycle wheels are gray and crusty. This won't do.
What is your favorite way of cleaning wheel spokes quickly and effectively of the sort of rust you get from neglecting to clean your machine before storing it away?
Any and all snark is well-deserved but I really just want to know of any methods / chemicals. Thanks.

The same way we clean up playa gunk every night, Pinky...
Water, vinegar, soap, etc. Maybe get a pressure sprayer, or use the hose. You can try picking at any more substantial corrosion with a towel or something. WD-40 will also help remove rust. Really not much else to say.
Or just leave it. I mean, you're bringing it back out to the playa again right? It's not like more playa on the spokes is going to hurt it further. You can clean it off when you get back.

brass wool, best for bicycle chrome. won't scratch and does not rust. brass wool good, steel wool bad. I use it for all of my classic Schwinn barn finds.

Best secret for removing rust from bike parts: oxalic acid bath.
You can order a sack of the stuff in powder form online. It's cheap. Mix it in water in a big plastic tub and soak your parts in it a day or so. It's particularly effective on chrome.
