1st timers need ride back to Reno Monday Sept 5th

Post by sharonopolis » Wed Aug 03, 2016 4:52 pm

Our camp is packing it in on Sunday morning, but as first timers to BM we really want to see the Temple burn. Our ride to the playa is covered but we need a ride to our Reno hotel FOR US AND OUR STUFF.

You'd be carrying: 2 people, 2 bikes, tent, 5' cooler, 3-5 bins, a banjo, and an accordion. (This is too much to fit on the Burner Bus, we thought of that. ) Ideally we'd leave Monday morning and hopefully miss the worst of Exodus? We can provide a vehicle pass if that sweetens the deal.

Any help you can point me to is great!

As a rule, you won't find anyone to commit to offering a ride out to your hotel. It's too constricting for someone to do.
What usually works is finding a person leaving at the time you want, and asking them for a ride at the time they're leaving. Most everyone has extra room, since most of their consumables have been consumed. 8)
Best of luck with your plans.

I just thought I'd specify that we have a destination in Reno... I mean, I don't really want to be dropped off anywhere on the side of the road, you know? And in my experience people have a harder time fitting everything back into vehicles than getting it there, bags of trash and whatnot.

I guess I'll look for people posting to leave Monday morning and see what I find!

Let me try to re-reiterate once again, but in different words.

At this time, no one knows where you're camping, or what time you're leaving, or where they'll be, or when they're leaving.

When you actually want to leave, you will find an endless stream of cars heading off the playa. You can ask any one of those cars if they are heading to Reno and do they have room for two people. You will possibly have to check with several people before you find the perfect match, but it always seems to happen quickly. Remember, people are still all warm and fuzzy with peace and love while still on the playa. They don't turn back into crazed butt-nuggets until they hit the pavement.

While joking a bit, my advice is real.

You might want to target the guys driving converted school busses. Many (most?) of these tend to be locals, or within 4-500 miles, and there is quite an active community of Skoolies in the Reno area.

One of these folks might have space for you and your stuff, but you should try to make the connection early in the burn, as spare space does tend to go fast. Maybe offer to chip-in for diesel as a deal-sweetener, as these leviathans get single-digit mileage.

Thats all I got. 8)

And it wouldn't hurt to have a large sign. Something along the lines of HOME TO MOMMA RENO! That way they know where you're going and you've given yourself a personality.
