Eplaya Meet & Greet 2016
Re: Eplaya Meet & Greet 2016
CFM that was probably me. I'm glad you like it. I made one for the Amtrakathon this year that was spectacular. It was a beautiful boa constrictor stuffed animal with an adorable baby in it's belly. (You just opened the velcro to find the baby.) I don't know the young man that got it but it was love at first sight. I can't wait to see everybody.

Ratty, I still LOVE my Roadkill friend from the Amtrakathon. It'll be joining me on the Playa for its first burn. (Or second, if our 5-day regional Saguaro Man counts.) That too was love at first sight, when I saw it in Reno!Ratty wrote:CFM that was probably me. I'm glad you like it. I made one for the Amtrakathon this year that was spectacular. I feel your pain! I help run a food camp at one of my regionals, we joke it's just the Southern in us to feed people and I can't do it out there and it kinda bugs me. I've found at burns that just lending a helping hand goes a long way. We can team up and keep it clean, blowtorch the plates - or cover Yggie in stickers, I dunnoMohairs wrote: Since I'm coming from Minnesota, prepared food isn't easy for me to bring
The MnG is just a wonderful gathering of people, ages, locations, interests, and otherwise motley crues. Then there's the after parties....
I've got some more people contributing stickers, so I'm kinda excited about taking my local friends global.

Re: Eplaya Meet & Greet 2016
Made it to the M&G last year, maybe this year will be twice in a row! Will bring dolmas again, folks seemed to like those last time. But it's the playa, we could wind up anywhere doing mostly anything, as usual.

Which absinthes? Returning with me this year are the StGeorge's and the Butterfly, to be joined by Lucid and Pontarlier when my new Nalgene flasks arrive. I gave some of the StGeorge to someone who shall remain nameless who is allegedly an absinthe fan but he admitted he was too inebriated to enjoy it properly.

Greetings, Cheese-waffle cracker addicts.
I just got a second CASE of crackers last night. They are already loaded in the trailer so I don't consume any, because they're easily inhaled. Like Beldar said, "Consume mass quantities."

Re: Eplaya Meet & Greet 2016
Fig jam for meet & greet? In honor of FigJam?
I have a prolific couple of fig trees, and made jam this past weekend. I will try to remember to bring one or two containers of it (must keep it refrigerated as it's not sugary enough to be at room temps). If I get really inspired, brie to go with it-- since folks are bringing all these crackers. Fallback for playa brain is the dolmas.
Recipe, if anyone wants to try:
Simple Fig Jam
1.5 to 2 gallons of ripe figs, cut into small pieces
1 cup coconut or palm sugar (dark sugar)
2 cups white sugar
1 cup lemon juice
1 cup orange juice
1/4 c meyer lemon infused olive oil
1/4 c blood orange infused olive oil
2 tsp ground cardamom
1 tsp ground cloves
Bring to a slow rolling boil, then turn down to a simmer. Skim the foamy seeds off the top multiple times. Reduce to about half the volume, or until the thicker mixture coats a spoon or gels up well when you put a teaspoon on a small plate and put it in the fridge. I'm not sure there's enough sugar to fruit ratio to preserve this in jars with paraffin-- I go lighter on the sugar because that's what I like. This jam is fabulous on croissants, or with cheese. Tastes very much like the $8/jar fancy fig jam they sell at Whole Foods.
I got 7 pint containers worth out of this volume.

I managed to get a couple of fifths of Missouri corn whiskey made by a local craft distiller. Both are PRIME. Low batch numbers from a new and wildly popular distillery here. Does Doc Pyro want any of our award-winning wines? I shit thee not, the Augusta Missouri area is United States Viticultural District No.1 Napa Valley is Number 2. Who granted it that designation? The US Dept. of Agriculture. And, it's true to say, we're not in the middle of a drought, and as such our wine supplies and crops aren't endangered and expensive. A bottle of Les Bourgeois Vinyards' wine runs about $4.99 and is comparable to most of Napa Valley's finest Chablis and cabernet in quality.
Tell Doc to send me a private message if he needs a wine stock increase from what he has planned.

Awesome! I bumped Doc.
We might have some extra orange juice and bloody mary mix for the event, as well as a couple of bottles of some recent award winning vodka.

Awesome back at ya, skuzzy! O.J. + grenadine syrup + Don Julio makes one FINE tequila sunrise.Skuzzy61 wrote:Awesome! I bumped Doc.

And I got a bottle of Don for the occasion. Now all I need is a bottle of Midori melon liqueur and a bottle of Sauza Hornitos. Then I'm good 24/7. Because the tequila may be good with the sunrises, but you need some horny toads after dark.
Sauza Hornitos + Midori liqueur over ice = a Horny toad. Mean and green. And tasty.

Re: Eplaya Meet & Greet 2016
Apparently, one of our neighbors here is donating some Rahr beer to bring as well.
Just curious, as we are birgins, would an open bucket (galvanized wash bucket) with ice be appropriate to contain the beer, vodka, and mixers?

Skuzzy, it sort of depends upon the weather. If it's not windy and pleasantly warm that would be fine. But if it's really windy, which means it will also be very dusty, you will want to keep it covered like in a regular ice chest. Ditto if it's above say 102 degrees.

I am really looking forward to the M&G this year, miss you all so much.
Will be bringing ice, water, sodas cause y'all seem to have the booze thing covered.
Don't forget that BLACK OUT BLACK ROCK is that night 11-12 , wherever you are in BRC at 11 PM please dim your lights for one hour so we can all see the stars.
