Yet another new Burner...

Post by Birdstrike » Wed Aug 10, 2016 4:20 pm

Hey All,

Got involved with a Burning Man project and got hooked. Want to see it in action on the playa. :) Recently retired from tech, love cooking, adventure traveling and the arts. Volunteer with a local Opera company (sound board operator, but pitch in wherever needed). Handy with tools, inveterate tidier. Live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Have a ticket if I move fast, but need an RV share or equivalent before I pull the trigger on that. Watching the Man Burn sounds like a perfect start to a new direction in life.

If not this year, then next...

Rick

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

You don't need an RV.

Get a tent and supplies and just do it. 8)

Birdstrike, Welcome to eplaya. You can come on along without a rv. Search around for some lists. (There are a gazillion of them.) See if you can round up the necessities and drive on over. Nothing fancy. Just you and 68,000 others having a fine vacation together. You won't be sorry. Do it. Make the leap.

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Hi Rick! :D

As they're saying, RVs aren't necessary to a quality Burn. I know they have their plus sides, but I've always been a tent camper, myself. You could also rent a cargo van and put a mattress in the back. There are lots of ways to do things. But if you need an RV for whatever reason:

ePlaya Rideshares and Resource Sharing are here:
viewforum.php?f=469

The Rideshare Board is here:
http://rideshare.burningman.org

And you should meet some locals. RVs are expensive as you know, and you might find someone local to you who's looking to fill a spot and ease the burden. Join lists anywhere near you and post on FB or email their mailing lists.

Good luck! . . . I hope you won't anything stand in your way.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm on the hunt!

Turns out many of the people I already know have contacts in the greater Burning Man community, so I'm looking into that as well. Just keeping fingers crossed as to the timing.
