Hexayurt with 3/4" walls
Hexayurt with 3/4" walls
Do you guys think an Hexayurt with 3/4" walls will be good enough (assuming just a very basic swamp cooler and fan - no A/C)?
Will/Won't isolate me from the heat well enough?

Sure, will be plenty cool.
Problem is it may collapse with the first wind storm.
3/4 thick is a bit wimpy.

I'd be more concerned about the structural integrity, especially if you're building any of the larger sized yurts like the H-12. You are using boards made of 'polyiso' material right?

not in a decent wind. 1" thick minimum for structural integrity like BvB said for the smaller models 1.5" is even better for full size yurts. I know the panels are more expensive, but what is the cost savings when it crumples on day 2?

Even if I anchor it by rope halo to 6 rebars? Maybe I'll use the PVC-tape-loop technique instead...

The thing is mindbomb, the boards themselves, at only 3/4" thickness, could snap or buckle in the wind.

I use the 6' stretch design with 3/4" walls and have had no problems.
Re: Hexayurt with 3/4" walls
Thanks for the reassurance @zachwilliams - was it also naturally cool and nice inside? or do you run an A/C?
OK, will bring my tent as well as this yurt, just for backup I guess..

Your welcome.
It was naturally cooler, however unless you have some type of cooling mechanism; swamp cooler, A/C, or fan(s), it will heat up during the day. I use the figjam swamp cooler design, and 4" cargo straps across in two locations for anchoring. Additionally since the 6' stretch is shaped somewhat aerodynamically, I face the pointed side of the yurt to the predominate wind direction of Southwest, and park my car behind it and have a monkey hut for my front. Again; my experience is with the 6' stretch, larger yurt styles may warrant the additional thickness for better stability.
Hope that helps.
