I need a place to park and camp
Where do I find a place to park? Where does everyone get their designated spot?

Re: I need a place to park and camp
Hello and welcome! If you haven't read either the Survival Guide or First Timer's Guide, you should start there. Beyond that, I think it's been covered in a few different spots on the board already. Once you arrive and come through the gates and greeters, you head into the city and just find an available spot. This post has information on how to plan your arrival and make your way into the city. The published 2016 BRC map shows the space reserved for theme camps (those spots will basically be occupied by the time you get in), anyplace in the white area in either the city or in walk-in camping. I recommend that when you pull up to a spot that looks good, park and hop out and introduce yourself to the neighbors. Find out where their space needs end, and where you can begin setting up. Hope that helps, and good luck!

Easiest way to do this is just get to the playa. Once you're there, go find the Department of Parking Wardens (they'll have "DPW" somewhere on their clothing). Simply ask them to show you where to park your car and where you can set up camp and they'll make sure your experience at Burning Man is memorable.

I find the economy parking garage on the 9:00 side to be a lot less windy and dusty.

That sounds really far from where I'm going to be camping. Do they have valet or will they drop you off at your site? I could probably use the extra hands to set up my tent...BBadger wrote:I find the economy parking garage on the 9:00 side to be a lot less windy and dusty.
It seems that this is my circus, and apparently those are my monkeys.

wow weve come a long way people...it used to be that my main concern as a birgin was sneaking past a bedraggled sea captain slurring threats at passersby as he waived around a homemade duct tape and pvc flamethrower.Kelsier wrote:That sounds really far from where I'm going to be camping. Are those still allowed? I want to make six. I already have the sea captain outfit.... and the slurring down.

It would be cool to have a parking director in reflective safety gear and hand cones directing at the 6 split.

Re: I need a place to park and camp
I was told my first year (by my helpful greeter!!!) that there was lots of empty space around the man.
Did I look like, or act like that much of an asshole? I still wonder what... I was feeling pretty well prepared, not smug or anything.
check out last years gigapan photo, to get a feel for how big the place is. You'll get a map at entry with reserved and open camping city areas defined.

You might want to check out the valet parking option. You can pull up to the DPW's legendary "Black Hole" bar, look for the guys wearing black, and they will valet your car for you.

Help and Suggestions for Parking spot
I am coming with my two best friends and we are looking to park somewhere quiet but still along 6:00 but more to the outskirts cause we know how hectic it gets in the center. What do you guys suggest as to how to get a spot? How do you book a spot and stake a claim? Also what should I bring to try and be very neighborly?
Re: Help and Suggestions for Parking spot
Burning since 2012, hmmm. Shouldn't you know how this works already?
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

Re: Help and Suggestions for Parking spot
It sounds like you already know exactly where you want to set up.
Judging by your question I don't think you do know how hectic it gets.
6:00 and even Center Camp itself tends to be pretty quiet at night.
It's the outer ends that are loud as hell.

I feel for this guy. I'm 62 and have tried to get a ticket for the last 3 years. I AM GOING! this year. Got a STEP ticket near the end of July. I imagine when I get there I'll be driving around looking for a spot. "Those guys look too wild", "Not much room there", "There's some gray-hairs, I think I'll fit in with them."

Re: I need a place to park and camp
Hey! It's me again. I went last year. Found a place to park. Set up my Kodiak tent. Had a queen-size inflatable bed. Drank a couple of coffee cups of brandy the first night. Fell on the bicycle. Had a miserable first two or three days. But I'll be back this year. Got me a sweet camping trailer. AND I got a trike. Little harder to fall off. And I don't plan on bringing anything stronger than beer.
