When is the Friday evening E.A. "California Burn Rush"?

In 2015 I went in on Friday night early arrival, passed Gerlach around 8pm...and promptly hit a huge crowd on the dust road to BRC. Partly that was the dust-storms, but partly, I'm told, is because many Californians with E.A. that aren't far work a half-day or full-day Friday, then head to BRC after, so there's a big crowd that hits on Friday before Gate opens to the public.

Anyone know what time this typically happens? Or is it not typical?

I clarified my post...I meant Friday before it opens. They're not weekenders, they're dedicated Burners.

I know. But from what I was told, lots of Californian E.A. holders tend to hit the Gerlach area Friday evening. I'm trying to see if anyone knows when that surge occurs.

A little something that you may want to remember about Burning Man, rarely does anything happen the same way from one year to the next.

I usually leave very late Thursday night/Friday morning and arrive just about sun-up on Friday. Never had more than about 20 minute wait at the gate.

EA is limited to specific entry dates, so at the day-changes you'll see a lot of people trying to get in and PARTTTTYYYYYYY *cough* I mean get as much work done in the limited time as possible.

I have been in 3-4 hour early entry lines, remember that Gate isn't fully staffed and there's the extra complication of EA passes, so it's not necessarily a smooth process. You just get in sooner, not skip any line whatsoever.

How would anyone's departure point have any effect? If they came from Indiana, they would leave earlier and still be in Gerlach on that same Friday night.
Hell, I'll be leaving from Seattle and arriving late Friday night.
The gates open when the gates open. Peoples EA becomes valid when it becomes valid. They leave whenever they need to so they arrive at the designated time, from wherever that is.
The line on Friday is everyone, from everywhere, who has EA.

Last year I got to camp in 1hr. flat from the pavement, I got out in about 45min. IN- 11am Monday, OUT-8am Monday. Traditionally you'd be fairly fucked at these times, last year it was the easiest EVER. Never thought I would see those sort of entry and exit times, yet there it was right in front of me. I will NOT be expecting the same this year...

you can thank hard work by gate and exodus managers and planners. Some of what they have come up with has worked a treat, and credit, at least partially, should go to them.

Something worked out that's for sure, a thank you to those of you that made it possible. When I kept driving and couldn't see a single RV or boxtruck in front of me, I must admit I started kinda getting weirded out. Is this even happening right now, is Burning Man even going on???

yeah they did some science and maths, and found ways to smooth things. Some minor social engineering, and time managements and "poof", it was better.

It can vary greatly from year to year. Depends on # of valid passes issued that day, # of people holding valid passes from a previous day that are running late, traffic conditions, gate conditions, and of course the biggest factor... weather on the playa (since the gates close during white-outs).
