Guardians of the Koi Pond needed!

JoeJoe Martin and the Koi crew have been working super hard on this art piece. We are inviting our friends and community to help guard this beautiful digital sculpture with us.

Have fun interacting with people while caring for the safety of the artwork and our fellow burners.Guardians are there to let folks know that the pond isn't safe for moonwalking, swimming, or otherwise. It's durable enough to withstand the desert elements — but not to hold human bodies.

Each shift for the duration of the event is only two hours and at night:
8 - 10 PM (Sunset)
10 PM - Midnight
Midnight- 2 AM
2 - 4 AM
4 AM - 6 AM (sunrise)

PLEASE REMEMBER: Shifts that say, for example, Tuesday Midnight-2 AM mean it is Tuesday morning. For most of us that means we are still up and we think it is Monday night.


Guardians are encouraged to sign up for at least 2 shifts over the week. If you can only swing one, that's ok! Anything will help. We're also aiming to get at least 2 guardians per shift, so if you can, make it a date or a double date or a garden tea party!

We know that there are many wonderful arts on the playa and we would be honored if you choose to give your thanks by volunteering for the Koi Pond.

P.S. If you have not heard of the Koi Pond, here are a few fun facts:
The pond is a full color LED video array with over 40 times the LEDs of the bay bridge!
But wait, it's not just a video, the fish are rendered in real time and interactive. They actually swim to you if you beckon them. It's practically AI, people!
The bridge is meticulously hand-crafted with repurposed wood from a 100 year old theater.
The garden also features custom-designed and hand-crafted lanterns, benches and a fence.
It's an honorarium recipient! Deep thanks to Burning Man for supporting us!

What happens if someone pisses in the pond?

So you put in years of work into this and are going to rely on:

Random people that sign up

Random people with absolutely no authority to do anything

Playa time

I hope it works out. Considering the effort to design, build and programing the gizmo, having a better plan might have been wiser.

Sorry, I mange risk for a living and have a morbid point of view most days.
