Reading these threads, I imagine the last minute scurrying around; the sound of plastic lids being snapped shut on bins, re-opened and then snapped shut again; the anticipation and laughter; cars doors slamming.. it makes me happy just to reflect on it all.

I have a correction to the post you quoted: Earlier this year, Mr. Burner Von Braun offered me a drink in this very bar... (A side note; in the 1970's my Aussie friends taught me all about "returning a shout".)... Much to my disgrace, I didn't then respond to BVB. (!) So, thinking that I would make amends, finally, offered it up as part of my toast to us all... And I screwed it up.
I think I bought a very special drink... to some underpants.

Where is is located (a hotel?) and is it something that I would like to go to? Where can I get a ticket?

I can usually find a first timer who is excited and patiently explains all about what the event is about. (I ask if it's like Comic Con). Why in the world would people willingly head to a desert? Can you stay in a hotel and just go during the day?
After the exciting explanations, I decide to go. I pass out some swag to the group.

Hi all! Missed a bunch of pages as I have been in Playa withdrawal. After 9 years, I'm on the sidelines and will not be on Playa this year. A real bummer as I will be missing being with so many of you that I know and love. There is a season for everything in life and my Playa season is now in my rear view mirror. hey Marty! Good morning, friends. Marty, I made sure I had your favorite Mahler yesterday, on my ipod, and will pick a good time, and with some good friends, and we will be with you there. I'm considering graduation as well, but it usually feels like a good idea on the day I pack to go.

Jackass, got that still building going here. Friggin' bikes. Ended up having to rebuild an old bike last night, and almost done now, because my regular playa steed is too much of a job this year, and I can't manage it. This was PACK DAY, not BUILD DAY, but there you have it. I do like the idea of having something ready to ride right off the car, and the trike is always a second day, or late first night project.
