2016 Black Rock City Airport -- Volunteers Needed

We Have All Been Waiting On You To Show Up......

If there is anyone on e-playa who is still thinking about volunteering at the Airport this year, you might wish to go ahead and schedule yourself on Shiftboard.

About 85% of the shifts are already spoken for - which means that 15% of the possible ~1,000 shift are still available. There are still an good number of fun shifts, at desirable times and days that remain open.

In my opinion, one of the shifts at the Airport that is the most fun is the Know-It-All booth because you get the meet all the other Airport volunteers who are reporting for their shifts and you get to meet so many Burners/Sparkle Ponies who are asking some answerable and many unanswerable questions.

I am not sure how it will play out this year, but KIA will either be working out of an air conditioned office or under a shaded area.

I went with Passport Officer for both shifts:) I have a customer service nitch and I wont lie... a comfy chair and AC sounded like a nice treat lol. I am also doing Greeters this year 4 shifts... so I wanted to mix it up a bit so that steered me away from Know-it-all just so I could try something new... and the data entry part sounds interesting:) Im excited to help:)

10,000 through airport likely does NOT mean 10,000 fewer burners on the road than now...it likely means an 80,000 or 90,000 population event.

It also means 10000 people that cannot bring any kind of camp infrastructure with them or enough water. That means extra people will have to bring all that with them in a truck on the road. More traffic and heavier loads.

I'm waiting for the C-130 service so I can have my RV delivered as I fly in.

They may need to add a mile or few to the runway.

Could you imagine that. C-130's landing, RVs unloading driving 5miles to camp.

No need to extend runway.....
