How to get the stream camera dome dust free?

Post by Traveller in Time » Fri Sep 02, 2016 7:50 am

Question posed by Motorbike Matt (the voice on the Youtube stream).

First before you hoist it up prepare the surface to be anti static. Rinse the surface with diluted washing softener (the juice you use to make your clothes smell fresh as the last part of washing).

I have been pondering about this for some years now and the only playa proof solution I can think of is a kind of spandex/tricot sleeve.
Considering the done is fixed on top and there is some space between the window and the fixture. Stack several sleeves in this space. In the evening, just after dusk you pull the cord and one sleeve plops over the dome.

There are several sleeves attached to the (flag) line unused sleeves stay on top of the dome. Last days sleeve is resting just above the guide ring older somewhere on the line below.

Maybe an automatic tear-off system like race drivers use?

Why have several sleeves?

Redesigned, will also be more robust under heavy winds.

An extra structure guiding the sleeve over the dome may be required.
Also why having 'clean' sleeves in stock, just one should do.
This also adds a return line, enabling to scrub and in rest the wind factor will be lower.

Ships use a spinning pane of glass.

Spin the dome.

Wow that sounds great, the dome would act like a "Van de Graaff Generator".

Trying to match the sparks of Camp Sextant :D

It will work with water, not sure what happens in the dust.

It's all actually CGI. Burning Man hasn't really happened for years.

In CGI they could make The Man float. Now wait that would give away that it is just a conspiracy?

Nah, too much unpredictability to be scripted.
