Hmmmmm. Humans have been around how long? I think humans have always fought. I think they always will. I think it is ingrained. I don;t believe we learn from history. I don;t go out of my way looking for fights but don;t back down either. I don;t carry now at this position, no commission, but I do have a lesser degree of authority. To protect the resources. On the other hand, when I was a Ranger in Colorado State Parks, I was armed, wouldn't go out in the field without weapons. Still have some, take em with when I am going to place I think I might need them. Never had to yet, close but not yet. But then i have been trained in the use of force continuum.

Okay, I know this is going way of OP, but aside from a job or going hunting or target practice, which I understand, what kind of place would you take a gun that you think you might need it? Like you're going out somewhere are just might need that gun to make a point, or something ... ??? That whole train of thought completely loses me.

When on earth, just hanging out on a regular day, might you need to threaten or kill someone if you aren't a cop, security guard, ranger, etc. ? Because what are guns for if not to kill something or someone?

""what kind of place would you take a gun that you think you might need it? ""

the desert.

really.

most of the camping trips i take out there, it's pretty common to see other people with holstered sidearms.

there's coyotes - those with two legs as well as four, and the nearest call for help is usually hours away. it's a self reliance thing.

the thing is, most of the time the situation *is* really polite.

(the one time i got into an altercation while i was carrying a sidearm, i was way more careful that usual to *not* escalate it. it made complete sense at the time, but would have seemed counter intuitive at first thought before hand...)

I still don't see why. Where I live, I have coyotes, I have bears cruising through my yard some times (at my new house, they have two paths right through my yard)... I go hiking, see bears, big moose, what have you, geez, there's even wolverines around here if you really want to meet a scary animal, and I never take a gun. And so?

there's some people who are kinda scavengers, except they like creating the opportunity to scavenge. deserts are good places to find em. sometimes it just helps to not look like an easy target.

as for they eyes:

So it's true then? The outbacks of the southern US are filled with sketchy freaks who want to steal your stuff or worse so you need to walk around with a gun to protect yourself? Sigh. I suppose then it's also true that everyone packs one either under the front seat of their car or in the glovebox?

Maybe if you just wore your crazy clinking glasses they'd leave you alone.

I'm not sure what this has to do with the eplaya camp...but...maybe we need to have a target practice range set up? Or sketchy freaks who steal stuff? Or cap guns?

girl with bb gun
riding hood hurt (some guy died)
i cried my eyes out

I heard that some guy was shot by a girls' gee-gaws
during critical tits once.

Right in the eye.

He was a Ranger, and everything (they said).

Just like Robbin Hood.

These things are sad.

I suggest we try and get over it, and move on.

Oh. My. God. How stupid is she. What an idiot. Excellent case for not bringing guns to BM.

This made me laugh though:

"What amused me was that, while I was biking along the
Esplanade to their camp,
people keep shouting "Yeah, dude!" Like it's very cool
to be riding around with blood on one's face.
I suppose, at Burning Man, it is."

Duuuude! Yeah! You look pretty happy in your pic considering you just got SHOT!

What a bitch. The cowgirl, I mean. Sigh.

Oops.
Sorry, sparkletarte!

I was just making free-association
with previous posts...
about concern over guns,
girls riding hoods (like red/robbin)
& of course,
eyes being poked out by
nipples.

My fault to further delay this fine thread about.....

ta da!

Who knows if it is real or not. Seems serious.

How about a hundred Elvis Santas?
It's going to be alright.

i know someone who used to drive through some of the worst ghettos in the country to go to work each day as a travelling nurse. they had to have one hand on a visible gun not to get carjacked. just sayin'.

reminds me of camping in the mountains. i was less worried about the bear snuggling with my tent than the drunk guys with a shotgun 'aiming' a gun at the bear - and us.

just sayin' some more.

I never carry guns (I hate them; bad memories) but I carry a knife with me wherever I go, usually small and in my pocket. Camping? A big fucking knife... and the thought of using one in close quarters can make you very polite to strangers.

i've had enough of guns.
but i think i'm getting used to them.

they didn't make anyone polite. 'specially not the people with the guns.

i don't like toy guns.
i don't let children play with guns around me.
i don't let anyone point the muzzle of a gun, toy or otherwise at me.
i will knock a gun out of your hand if within my power, if you point a gun, toy or otherwise at someone.

guns are not playthings.
guns are tools.
all guns are loaded until cleared... and if handing a gun to somebody else, clear it before handing it over, and expect them to check it again.

i'd have a hard time standing still while someone pointed a weapon, toy or otherwise at me.

the pen is mightier than the sword.
