I thought so, too. I can't say that I've been a big follower of Pinchbeck's work, but I recall that after having gone for many years (largely paid to do so, covering it for one publication or another) he made a big deal about skipping the event in 2015.
I'm glad to see that he came back in 2016, and that his opinions had shifted. Not so much in a "ha ha, you were wrong" kind of way, but in a "sounds like the time off was just what you needed" kind of way.
I've taken gap years away from the event, as has my girlfriend (she had actually stopped going to Burning Man when we met, and she took 2016 off), and my/our experiences have been that the time away really does help recharge the proverbial batteries.
