Alright, So I'll be the first! Not going to even worry about the whole, OMG I can't get a ticket stuff, I will and that's that! This has been a bucket lister for many years. Last year I got caught in the whole Tickfly screw up, and after 2 years of planning, lost out. This year, No Way!

I will be 55 one week before the Playa, I am heavily involved in the entertainment field, and one of the people I work with, suggested I film my experiences for a Docu looking at it from maybe a different perspective. That perspective being, is the Burning Man really all about 20 somethings going crazy in the dessert? Personally, I don't believe that for a second. I want to see and experience what I know to be a vibrant 50+ community that exists.

I am interested in joining a group, first who are ok with a camera around, and secondly, are OK with a dude around who is definitely not a party till the cows come home guy. I could wander the playa, soaking in the art and humanity the entire week, never taking a sip or acting deep end and be just thrilled. (Not Likely though)

I am a lover of all things creative, and being so can think of no place i need to experience more than Burning Man.

My planning is done, hell after 2 years it better be.

I am even open to starting a NEW camp, you will find me a ready and willing partner for 2017.

Hi Johnny and welcome to eplaya. I moved this post over to the Greeters station, as it will most likely get lots of responses.
Keep in mind that Burning Man is a completely clean slate for you to explore. Filming is great (you'll need a permit for that camera) but you may want to spend your first year just soaking in what's happening around you instead of viewing it though a lens

At 55, you will be about mid age in the crowd. Try to envision a normal city with everyone from young kids to elderly. That's Black Rock City. It's a place where you can be yourself. You can get creative and fun with the way you dress, but don't try to dress to conform to something that you're not. A suit and tie is fine--as is just shoes and a hat. Be YOU!

It sounds like you've done a lot of research which will serve you well in the desert. Best of luck in your planning and ticket and I hope you make it to the dust in 2017.

Already, good info,

I was completely unaware i would need a permit. I was not bringing any commercial camera equipment (We just finished a short film using the Iphone, and learned a ton) and it was just about me. Never considered I would need to rep as media.

I will make sure that gets done asap. I am sure my producer would have caught that in the paperwork check.

Johnny, Welcome to eplaya. The minute you said film I tuned out. Then I decided to put in my 2¢. I understand the camera mentality. My campmate is a buff. I stopped requesting that she put the camera down because it's more fun for her to take pictures. That film you're dreaming of has been done and overdone. You do realize there are literally thousands of videos, hundreds of documentaries and millions of stills. If you are thinking of making money or becoming famous, forget it. (If you're already famous congrats.)

Maybe I'm just crotchety. I am 64. I see kids run over to film crews and talk into mics. That is so unimportant to me that I swerve to miss it. Don't let it ruin your vacation. That's what it is. You take time off, spend money and go to a foreign land. Help some strangers put up their shade structure. Go to Center Camp and sign up for a volunteer job. Pack your bag with food and water and stay out all night. Sleep-over on a strange smelling couch. Lose one shoe and wake up wearing a bra. In other words have fun.

See you at the Meet & Greet. We will hug you silly. But don't bring the video camera. Someone did this year and it ended poorly.

Ratty, What a great perspective! I have actually had several people PM me with the recommendation that I do not film,
but just immerse myself this first time. Then I can make a decision whether to pursue something at a later time.
That was always my intention, but had been kinda pushed into the other. Make Money? Be Famous!

See what y'all did with all that good advice . Had a long meeting today with my producer about another project and brought up concerns and thoughts from some of you, Solid advice I have gotten in both the forum and PM, she left it to me, and I made the decision,

The Cameras stay home.

The first experience should be to Learn, Explore, Experience and contribute to the gathering, NOT work.

Now the tough part begins, what to wear, what to wear?

The Cameras stay home.

I carry a small digital camera with me during the week. You won't need a permit if it's for your own use. I try to capture some of the more amazing art when it hits me in the face. I never get professional shots, but some really great pics and memories.

Just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for the very cool help.
The last three weeks have been exceptional.
After many IM's i decided not to film, was invited to join a village, learned a whole new way of thinking about clothing (Ratty, You Rock) was turned on to some exceptional resources.

I am dialed in and ready for the next chapter.

I will indeed be paying it forward at every chance i get.
