Popular vote means nothing, because those are not the rules. If they were, we'd have different results. Here in California, many Republicans don't even vote on Presidential elections because they don't matter, it always goes to the Dem candidate. If they knew popular vote mattered, many more would probably come out and vote. I'm sure the same applies to other 1 Party strongholds as well.
As to this election year, Hillary only won in areas that don't have voter ID laws and in the presence of Sanctuary cities. Odds are very high that many of the votes cast for her shouldn't be counted anyhow because they were cast by the dead, illegal aliens or non-existent people. Take those away, and she might not have even won the popular vote.
Either way, it really doesn't matter. The electoral college exists for a reason, to prevent high population areas from completely dominating low population areas. We are not a Democracy, we are a Representative Republic. The word Democracy doesn't even appear in the Constitution.
