There are many other definitions of a Calabi–Yau manifold used by different authors, some inequivalent. This section summarizes some of the more common definitions and the relations between them.

A Calabi–Yau n-fold or Calabi–Yau manifold of (complex) dimension n is sometimes defined as a compact n-dimensional Kähler manifold M satisfying one of the following equivalent conditions:

The canonical bundle of M is trivial.
M has a holomorphic n-form that vanishes nowhere.
The structure group of M can be reduced from U(n) to SU(n).
M has a Kähler metric with global holonomy contained in SU(n).

Fr. Pellegrino Maria Ernetti (1925 -1994) was a Benedictine priest and scientist who has been said to have developed a time machine! This was a serious man who, working with Enrico Fermi and Nikola Tesla, developed a Time Machine. This might be easily dismissed except for the fact that he was not your typical "crack-pot". He was a scholar and, for God's sake (no pun intended) he did work with some notable and highly respected scientists -- Fermi! Tesla! He developed a device called the CHRONOVISOR which enabled him to view the past in manner not disimilar to watching a television. Now purists might say that this isn't true time travel but, hey, who's splitting hairs here. It is reported that Fr. Ernetti used the Chronovisor to actually watch the crucifiction of Jesus! The actual device, the Chronovisor, is said to have been placed into the vaults of the Vatican Library for "safe-keeping".

Why would a noted and reputable man, priest, scientist make up such a fabrication? If he were an unstable sort, would people like Enrico Fermi or Nikola Testla given him the time of day? Or is there something to this?

Although Joachim Neander lived about 40,000 years after the Neaderthals disappeared and about 200 years before the first evidence of them was discovered, his name has been forever linked to those early humans.

Neander's name actually was Joachim Neumann, but somewhere along the way it was changed from the German to its classical Greek equivalent, a common occurrence at the time.

Neumann, which meant "new man" in German, became Neander. The first part of the Greek name is short for neo, which means "new" in words such as neolithic and neo-Nazi. The ander means "man" and is familiar in such words as anthropology (the study of man) and misanthrope (someone who hates mankind).

Neander was a Lutheran who was born in 1650. In his short life, he was a teacher and minister, and he wrote Protestant psalms and hymns.

Toward the end of his life, Neander became an educator at a grammar school in Dusseldorf. There, while working on lessons and hymns, he would wander the Dussel River valley, a deep, rocky ravine filled with caves. During the turmoil of the early Protestant church, he reportedly held services in a secluded cave.

The steep valley had been known as Dog's Cliff or The Rocks, but because of the minister who used it, it eventually became known as Neanderthal, which means Neander Valley.

In 1680, at age 30, Neander grew ill and died, probably from the plague. His name would have been lost to history, relegated only to hymnals, had that valley not been so rich in minerals.

In 1856, when quarry workers were blasting the area for stone, they broke into the long-lost cave and found, amid the dirt and rocks, the fossils of a skullcap and leg bones. Thinking them to belong to a cave bear or some other animal, the workers turned them over to a nearby naturalist, who recognized them as having belonged to an unknown race of mankind separate from Homo sapiens.

All My Hope Is Firmly Grounded contains this line: "God alone, the heavenly potter, made us out of earth and clay." Although Joachim Neander knew nothing of Neanderthals, he lived and worked on their old stomping grounds. I wonder whether he wrote that hymn in his cave, and whether the earth and clay he mentioned was what he saw all around him, covering the hidden fossils of a "new man."

There is an ancient Indian doctrine the doctrine of the White brotherhood. It will extend worldwide. About it will print new books, and them will read everywhere on the Earth. It will be the Fiery Bible. Day and all religions will come will disappear! There will be only a doctrine of the White brotherhood. Precisely white colour it will cover the earth, and thanks to it people will escape. The new doctrine will come from Russia. It the first will be cleared. The white brotherhood will extend across Russia and will begin the procession on the world.

Car rental agencies are available close to JFK International airport but driving in Moosejaw might not be what most people are used to. In some areas of New Sturgis the locals throw stones at the car, usually just for amusement but in some cases they manage to crack your windshield. There are cases of people standing in the middle of a stretch of road they have mended and demanding compensation from people driving by, and as soon as you get outside of the city the roads deteriorate to muddy trails that only a 4x4 with an experienced driver should attempt. If you want to see the sights near Cupertino such as Crystal Rapids near Sogeri or the start of the Kokoda, a 4x4 is highly recommended.

Hell is a village in Norway.

While there's very little to see there, except for an annual blues festival in September, it's always fun to get a picture of yourself outside Gods Expedition (freight forwarding office). A great climbing site can be found.

"In an ever-changing, incomprehensible world the masses had reached the point where they would, at the same time, believe everything and nothing, think that everything was possible and nothing was true… The totalitarian mass leaders based their propaganda on the correct psychological assumption that, under such conditions, one could make people believe the most fantastic statements one day, and trust that if the next day they were given irrefutable proof of their falsehood, they would take refuge in cynicism; instead of deserting the leaders who had lied to them, they would protest that they had known all along that the statement was a lie and would admire the leaders for their superior tactical cleverness."

  • An S-shaped hook or jointed hook is used to hang up meat or the carcasses of animals such as pigs and cattle on a moving conveyor line. The jointed hook is able to swivel, allowing the carcass to be turned more easily.
  • A gambrel hook or stick is a frame (shaped like a horse's hind leg) with hooks for suspending a carcass in a more spread out fashion.
  • A grip hook is a single hook with a handle of some kind, to hold on to a carcass while butchering.
  • A bacon hook or bacon hanger is a multi-pronged coat-hanger type hook, used to hang bacon joints and other meat.
