Wheee did you order your lag screws? I'm looking for a source where I don't have to buy a box of 50.fernley1 wrote:First item for burning man for 2017, ordered 14" lag screws.
BBadger wrote:You'll be hard pressed to find the 3/8 x 14" variety anywhere else besides the sources posted already. They're more of a specialty item and it's actually pretty fortunate they can be had at that price. If you are willing to settle for 12" length bolts, you can find them more commonly (e.g. here).
Does the extra 2" really make a difference? I have no idea as I've only used the 14" variety, which holds up just fine.
Something to bear in mind is that the topmost surface of the playa, typically the first few inches, is often cracked and dusty material, therefore the upper portion of your lag bolt is only loosely affiliated with the playa. While 10 inch lags may be adequate for a tent, I think you may already realize, your carport will require something longer. Personally, I'd probably just go ahead and use 14" lags all around and be done with it. At one point, I just went ahead and bought a box, and I bring the spares to gift as needed.Jeremy757jones wrote:

The Man burns in 185 days! - See you in the Dust!!
Thanks! It took a lot longer than I projected, but I did finally pass the certification test today to use most of the equipment. My buddy does the test on Wednesday and then we'll be ready to build art.FlyingMonkey wrote:++++BoyScoutGirl wrote:Finished up my welding and fabrication class. I hope he's either aware of what happens to vehicles subjected to the playa, or you're really good at cleaning the thing up.Joeln wrote:wow! my friend at work is loaning me his 21 foot RV.

The look of pure joy on Dewey's face in this scene made the entire episode.maladroit wrote:BBadger wrote:I hope he's either aware of what happens to vehicles subjected to the playa, or you're really good at cleaning the thing up.Joeln wrote:wow! my friend at work is loaning me his 21 foot RV.
He burnt once about 12 years ago and I'll run the shop vac around for a few minutes...BBadger wrote:I hope he's either aware of what happens to vehicles subjected to the playa, or you're really good at cleaning the thing up.Joeln wrote:wow! my friend at work is loaning me his 21 foot RV.
