Legalization of Marijuana and BM impact?

Since no one else has posted on this yet, thought we could get the Philosophical discussion rolling?

Voters in Nevada approved Question 2 on November 8, 2016. The initiative legalizes the possession of up to one ounce by adults that are 21 years old or older. The initiative also legalizes the cultivation of up to 6 plants by adults 21 years old or older and also permits that those adults can ‘possess the marijuana produced by the plants on the premises where the plants were grown.’ There is a 12 plant limit per residence. If a residence is located within 25 miles of a licensed marijuana store, home cultivation is prohibited. This goes into effect Jan 1. 2017.

Any one have any idea on how this will affect BM ? ...

The feds say it's still illegal, in fact, it's still a felony to possess.
Burning Man is on Federal land.
Federal law overrides state law.
The feds will require state LE to comply with them.
Transporting drugs of ANY kind across state lines is illegal.
You will still get stopped for bogus reasons and searched.
You will still get a citation for that joint that will cost you in the $500 range.
Nothing will change with respect to Marijuana or ANY other drug at Burning Man.

There is a limit for coffee shops (licensed marijuana stores) to be more then 500m (1500ft) from a school. (and then they decommission the school to keep everything within the law )

That situation wouldn't arise because there is little "free" land left in Europe to divide or designate as "public." In the western US, about 47% of all land is federally owned "public" land.

Often this is a good thing for citizens (not so much for developers). As public land, anyone can go enjoy the land within reasonable limitations, and that can even include hosting a huge event like BM. In theory anyway.

The real problem in this case is not who owns the land, but the differing legal status of marijuana at the state and federal level. If marijuana were made legal at the federal level there would be no issues, but at this time only some states are decriminalizing marijuana. It would be like a city in Europe legalizing pot, but the country itself still designating it illegal. Some bizarre situation could arise where the local magistrates wouldn't enforce the anti-pot laws, but police under national jurisdiction would.

At BM, in Nevada, I'm unsure whether federal law enforcement would bother pulling over an searching vehicles, or whether local police would be responsible. If the latter, they would not be able to fine the users for pot possession below a certain limit. I'm sure they'll find some other excuse to generate money from fines though.

Unless you're in a smoking room, there still isn't any public smoking allowed. What the Sands or any other casino that wants to capitalize on BM can do, though - looking at you JA Nugget and GSR - is make pools off limits for a couple days or even just for the span of one or two parties, and then the space is considered private.

Until 2018, we still don't have legal, un-carded purchasing here, so everything would have to be shared and it would be tough for a casino to regulate that during a party, if there's a whole lot of money to be made, casino employees have a tendency to look the other way. At the very least, I think we can anticipate quite a lot of unverifiably stinky vape pens wandering around town.

Get a smoking room...

Last I talked to one of the dispensaries here in Reno, they told me June/July of this year for rec sales. Hopefully this still holds true. Just called 2 of the mmj dispensaries and yep they're still hopeful for July. There was a legislative meeting (?) in Carson last week and things are still on board for July with them too.
