Just a vehicle pass only?

Post by claybcook » Mon Mar 27, 2017 9:49 pm

How would someone go about getting just a vehicle pass? I have a ticket I'm able to pass on to a friend, but they're coming from another direction and are driving their own car. Is there a way to get just a vehicle pass without having to go through the ticket lottery?

If you mean in the Main Sale... the information on the Ticket Page does not say.
It DOES say about the Pre-sale -- No VP only. (They allowed it the first year; then figured it out.)
It DOES say about the OMG Sale -- Yes, they will sell you a VP only in the OMG Sale.

But no mention in the Main Sale info. Reckon you try, and see what happens.

On the off chance that you're asking the more basic question here, Vehicle Passes are only made available through the various ticket sales. Otherwise, you'll have to procure secondhand.

So Elliot's response is pertinent here, and I too am not certain whether you can buy just a VP in the Main Sale. As you may know, registration for that sale is now closed. Also, be aware that in the past Vehicle Passes have sold out even before the tickets themselves do in the Main Sale.

Yeah. Whats up with that? 30000 tickets but only 10000 passes.

It's like a freaking black hole...there's major nailbiting and hype about vehicle passes right up until the event...and then nothing. No long, mournful stories about how they had every single other thing needed to get into the city, and it was all for naught due to the lack of one measly vehicle pass. No reports of a 150 person camp stuck in their skivvies and a 24-pack of Coors because the truck with all the supplies and infrastructure didn't have a pass. I was led to believe, every year, that there would be thousands of people from other countries thronging Gate and being turned back in their rental cars because the language barrier caused them to miss the Vehicle Pass detail.

What's the deal? Why no stories? Is Gate simply executing each carload of non-pass-holders and dumping them in Fly Geyser? Or are people just figuring it out because it's a trip to a remote part of the country and everyone is responsible for their transportation and takes it seriously?

Hi Burners! I got to the purchase ticket page in today's main sale only to find that all tickets and VPs left available were already in other people's shopping carts. So I hit the purchase tickets button anyway and it showed 1 available but no tickets. I checked the 1 VP and hit purchase anyway, knowing that VPs can be harder to come by later than tickets. It returned no tickets or VPs available. So I kept hitting the purchase ticket button in hpoes that tickets and VPs might come up as available again. Finally after a couple minutes a VP but no tickets showed available and I went for it and was able to purchase it. Now, the big worry is not if I can get two tickets but if MY VP order will indeed result in the Org sending me just the pass or if my order of a vehicle pass will be cancelled. I can live with the cancellation, but want to know ASAP if that will be the case so I can get working on buying another VP somehow as well as tickets. Any Mods or folks at Burning Man Ticketing out there who can answer this question? One way or the other I hope to see as many of you as possible in the dust this summer!

I'm moving this to the tickets discussion board, since that's a better fit for discussions about tickets and vehicle passes.

Thanks Trilo, And I plead guilty up front for cross posting the same question on another similar thread. I apologize as I know this is frowned on and could qualify me as a bit of a jerk (hopefully not full ass-hat status), but my excitement / disappointment level was all over the place in the last hour or so and as with all of us, I really need to make it home this year!

Did you get a response about your purchase of the vehicle pass on its own?

Sorry, I thought somebody else had either answered the question or pointed the OP in the direction of the ticket info or ticketing support pages - at the time I moved the thread the sale was already over and it was a moot point. Yes, a person could have purchased just a single vehicle pass in the main sale. There were 30K tickets and 10K vehicle passes available in that sale, with limits of 2 tickets and 1 pass and no requirement that a vehicle pass purchase can only be made with an event ticket (as is the case with STEP, the pre-sale, etc).

Thanks, Trilo! Good to know in the future (unless they change it, of course).
On the main website Ticket page... the info on the Pre-, the Limited- and the OMG sales specify the answer to this question.
(Pre- and Limited- no; OMG yes if not purchased earlier.)
The info on the Main sale does not mention it.
(No need to know this for the DGS, I expect.)

Yes, it does not specify a need to have also purchased an event ticket on the order because that was not a requirement.
