I find that helping others get ready typically has allayed my anticipatory stress in the past. I've got two virgins in tow so far this year, as well, so I'll enjoy having them to guide a little.

I fell off that exact same cliff 6 months before my first burn. My friends thought I was having some mental issues. I am still, years later, doing the same as you. Online buying stuff, making a trip to town to buy just one more sheet of hologram stars....all that stuff. Burning Man ruined my life as I knew it, and I have never been happier.

Same here, but for me it was 9 months. My first year was the first year tickets sold out, they had never not been available at the Gate before, but still I bought mine in the Pre-Sale. Out of my mind. Completely overprepared. I read EVERYTHING, including archives of this board back to the beginning.

And I was utterly blown away by the reality of BRC.

Throw out your expectations. BM will simultaneously not meet your expectations AND blow them away at the same time. Of course I've only bee once before.

I was in the same boat last year; obsessively read and watched everything I could get my hands on for nearly a year. I made packing lists, outlines, flow charts (I'm not usually an organized person). I brought waaay too much stuff, was extremely over prepared, and still some of my plans went to shit. Ultimately it didn't matter; even with the failures I had an outstanding time. My biggest regret was not being more hydrated BEFORE I got onto the playa. Drank tons of fluids as soon as I got there, but apparently I was dehydrated from day one. Two days in Medical and resting a big chunk of time definitely felt like it cut into my experience. I'm glad I get to go again this year to do it RIGHT!
