Where to Camp for deep play sound stages, Virgin Burner

Post by SolarPlexus » Fri Apr 07, 2017 5:38 pm

Obviously theyre everywhere, but where specically would be a good position to set up camp for sound stages late into the night. Such as disco knights, robot heart, pink manmouth, camp question mark, kalliope, distrikt etc etc! My girlfriend and I are very big into dubstep and Dnb. Any suggests on proximity, inner, outter clock?

From what ive reserched I'm thinking between K-A on 10:00 through 8:00, good proximity, good on shade.. thoughts :)

Much love, thank you

If that's what you want, that's probably where you'll want to be.

You're about 6 years too late for hearing endless dubstep at the burn though (Whomp whomp whomp....). Now it's a lot of crap trap music and other garbage, especially at QuestionMark.

I even heard a "DJ" who pretty much sounded like he was skipping to new songs mid-track in a randomized iPod playlist at Root Society. Or was it QuestionMark? I dunno, whatever. It was one of those shit DJs. I guess I'm just more surprised that some of these bozos even get to butt-dial their sets at these larger sound camps.

Be aware that a large chunk of the area you just described is reserved for placed theme camps - you can't just come in and set up there.

Last year's map, for reference (the shading roughly indicates which areas are reserved for placed camps - the white areas are open camping): http://burningman.org/culture/history/b ... city-plan/

Join a big sound camp. You can't get any closer than that if you want the playa dust to shake up towards your face while you camp.

You should totally go to a music festival. There are lots of them. What are you BRINGING to Burning Man? That is the question you should be asking.

Burning Man is not an EDM festival. Don't go.

Dub/dnb DJ here (more DMZ & Exit Records than Skrillex & Photec)

there is some good sound system vibes on the playa but I stuggled to find them in deep playa, last year there was 1 night the tectonic (730 & esplanade) were banging out jungle all night, I also did a show with the "Barechested barista's " camp in 2&b one afternoon during the week - those guys have a big home made rig and bang out proper dub vibes all week long!

I second that you should just go to a music festival if that's really what you want out of the event. At festivals the stages will be bigger, more plentiful, and it'll be a lot easier to manage than camping and all that crap in the middle of some desert wasteland. Hell, there may even be grass. It'll probably cost a bit less too.

To the OP - if you search around on the burningman.org website, you will find the 2016 city plan and the high resolution MOOP map which has the placed camps. Then if you look up the Rockstar Librarian's 2016 music schedule, you can associate camp names with 2016 places.

For 2017, most of that information will not be available until you get to the gate. Having bikes and sturdy locks will allow you to camp anywhere. Last year, they tried to encourage the dance party open playa art car large sound systems to hang out about 11 and I think L or so. Art cars are not supposed to cruise through the walk in camping area, but the 2 sound camps are as active as 10.

There are probably over 30 major sound camps, 10 major mobile systems, 600 art cars with a DJ, 1500 camps with a DJ, 50 bike or pedestrian sound systems, and over 100 camps with live music. The more you plan at the event the more you will be disappointed.

Deciding where you are going to camp is over 4 months away. Best with all your survival, transportation, supplies, costume and participation planning.

Mebbe "shade" is a type of 'shroom.

OK, I was snarky earlier, we had our fun.

You sound like you need to do allot more research and read the official survival guide from last year.

You have to personally bring everything you need to survive, including your shade; then you have to personally pack everything you bring out to the real world, including all your trash.

This is not a rave, this is not a music festival, there are no services for you out in one of the harshest places on this blue planet.

Please prepare for survival.

Okay, okay . I was snarky too. here's the reality - Further Future offers several levels of accommodations from a simple tent camping 10' x 12' spot for $95.00 (access to bathrooms and showers included!) to Full RV hookups (does not include ticket price). It seems, however, that your primary goal in attending is to camp as close as possible to the artists you know and love best from the default world, so I would suggest the Alpha Village for $950.00. Before you object to the price, you should know it includes a 9' x9' Fest Pod with external shade netting and flooring, furnished with air mattresses and Brand New Sleeping Bags (yours to keep!) and a solar light. However, if you REALLY want to get close to the Real-brand Burners who run Robot Heart (tm), you should look into the Lunar Palace, which reflects the Robot Heart (tm) ethos developed at Burning Man by providing a 9' high, furnished and air conditioned Luxury Dome for four with actual mattresses and linens, power outlets, a lockbox, a clothing rack and 24-hour concierge services! You and your friends will be denied NOTHING at this level of Radical Self Reliance (brought to you by the Dedicated Burners of Robot Heart (tm).

Sadly, this Level has already sold out, so I guess you'll have to suffer through the Alpha Experience. Hope this helps!

You can dance just about everywhere. The music NEVER stops. Let it all be your favorite. Now, do tell. What are you bringing to contribute to the community? For what department would you like to volunteer? Will your camp be offering any events or help to other camps? We would love to come visit and take part.

It's a moot question.
Just set up and camp somewhere. You can go visit whatever camp strikes your fancy. You won't know which one that is ahead of time, and it will change regularly depending on whats going on at the time. Plus, the majority of the big sound camps are near 10:00 and 2:00, which are opposite ends of town.
Just set up and camp somewhere, it doesn't matter. There's zero need to be camped anywhere in particular in order to go dancing, you'll end up crossing the playa to go to other joints anyway.

I'm sorry if you thought I was being harsh. Here's some real info for you:

BigDub festival runs July 26th -30th 2017 in Artemas, PA. Tickets for Wednesday Arrival run between $185 and $225, parking is $15, and camping pass is $75.00.

Since what you're looking for is access to your favorite Very Famous Default World DJs, I would recommend Main Camp - described as "Located at the heart festival, these camping spaces are right next to the stages. This is the most active."

Sadly, emotional support animals are not allowed on the Festival Grounds, but the Food Court will be accepting Visa and American Express!

Dreadful noise makers/ button-pushers masquerading as musicians are:

DoctorP, Liquid Stranger, Manic Focus, Trollphace (OMG LOVE HIM!), Trampa and many, many more!

Get your tickets today!

That typo rocks! I love me some pink manmouth! Naw, seriously, Pink Mammoth is one of my favorites, but they're more like an awesome, fur-trimmed bar/dance club than a giant "sound camp" (as I think of them, anyway).

If you sleep heavily under most circumstances, 8:00 - 10:00 on the map is a good spot. The biggest sound camps will be high on the clock, at (as previously stated) 10:00 and 2:00, and ringing the Esplanade.

Get a map when you enter the event and don't camp in the shaded areas. Even if it looks right on the map, ask your neighbors before you set up shop to prevent the tears and drama associated with pulling out your own tent stakes and relocating.

You will want bikes (and locks, as Some Seeing Eye helpfully counsels you) because there music and dance all around you, & the city is about 7 square miles. Also, a lot of dance camps have amazing mutant vehicles that go to deep playa. Bikes are crucial to chasing those down.

Finally, unless you're camping with a camp that specifically provides you shade, bring your own. Note: Camps are more likely to have a group shade that you may sit under w/ members/guests, & less likely to have a shade under which you can actually pitch your personal tent. Other kinds of shade are random events, outside of Center Camp (and other public places during their posted hours), and if you're in a basic tent, you won't sleep past 7am without shade. Anyone can coast on a few hours of sleep for a day or two, but after a week, you'll be toast.

Cheers . . .

Oh yeah... in my opinion - the best sound out there is the Mayan Warrior mutant vehicle, as well as the Robot Heart mutant vehicle.
At one point those two parked side by side and linked up their sound systems... M.W. from Mexico and R.H. from New York... that was just cooler than any of the stationary sound camps. They damn near caused their own dust storm! Those rigs are beyond amazing and each have TOP quality, professionally engineered extreme-budget and extreme-power sound systems.
It doesn't matter where you camp, they're on wheels and they go where they go.

What is even funnier is Robot Heart and Mayan Warrior don't even play "EDM"... I'm also a virgin, but the general trend of comments on eplaya made by a few tend to shame anyone looking for anything different than their specific program on the playa. So much for radical inclusion.

Ah yes, "Radical Inclusion". The one Principle that EDM losers use to justify bringing nothing, contributing nothing, shedding MOOP everywhere and blaring shitty music toward other people's experience against their will. But hey, "RADICAL INCLUSION" because that hot chick in the rented RV demands to see Default World Celebrity and where is her damn shower already? A tired defense of non-contributors.

I'm not going to defend any camp in particular, but from everything I've seen a lot of the camps you specifically lambaste are particularly supportive of some pretty amazing art projects that are going on out on the playa each year... Just from a quick glance, it looks like Robot Heart is providing their bus for the Rite of Spring performance at the Tree of Ténéré this year... From photos, it seems like Mayan Warrior does some pretty awesome interactive audio/lighting setups with a massive laser rig as well. Just because you don't "like" the music, doesn't really discount what they are doing. So apart from any art you specifically build, how much on playa art are you helping fund? Not everyone has time to go out into the desert and build things. But plenty of people are supportive both in time off playa and in funding many of the larger art projects...

Again, radical inclusion can mean many things. But what do I know... I'm just a virgin who can't wait to participate in as many aspects of the playa as I can... And yes, I'm coming out early to help setup the camp I'm with this year.

PS: My wife is flying in and out of BRC on BxA because of work commitments... Does that make her participation less valid? My guess from your other posts is you think she shouldn't even be there...

I don't see why them panties are bunching on you.

The OP got at least 10 good and useful replies.

The OP also appeared clueless on survival, asking for good shade and was pointed in the right direction.

Now on the 10 principles; those are a package deal. You get all 10 and you can't cherry pick them.

Radical self reliance is the first one and leads directly to the Survival Guide.

Once you get that down pat, you earn the remaining 9. That is simply the reality of the place.
