How to sell a ticket?

Post by Tel » Wed Apr 12, 2017 1:02 am

So, selling tickets - how do I avoid being scammed?

I see a lot of posts about how to avoid being scammed as a buyer - but not as a seller.

I'm in the awkward position of needing to try and sell two pre-sale tickets, as I've been left in the lurch by those I'd planned to camp with. I realise pre-sale are a contentious issue in themselves, with apparently many people buying them to then try and buy another in the main sale (?) but putting that to one side for the moment, I'd appreciate any advice people have on how not to get ripped off as a seller.

Whats stopping someone (once I've transferred the tickets) from saying that I haven't and filing a dispute with paypal / bank / whoever?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Apologies if there is somewhere obvious I've missed that contains this info, I've genuinely tried to search for info on here using both the search function on the board, as well as Googles "site:eplaya.burningman.org" but just come up with info relating to buyers.

You pretty much sell them the same way you'd sell anything in the aftermarket, with all the same precautions. Try following the Craigslist avoiding scams guide.

In-person and in cash is probably the best.

A problem for you is that presale tickets, selling at full sticker price, often don't sell until late in the season as people bide their time. Maybe you could sell your tickets for less than that to attract buyers earlier, and stipulate more secure methods such as cash only or in-person sales, etc.

Hiya,

Thank you for that - I was starting to think I was some kind of idiot for not being able to find info on it.

Completely understand re people not wanting to pay over the odds for tickets this early on. Will be trying to recoup any costs that I can, so may have to price them lower to get them to shift earlier.

Appreciate the advice!
