They will be round--this is just a mock (or five).
The accept all types. One will be "fancy art" — but am not ready to share it yet, and may not. It is an intense piece—and isn't translating to 3-inch diameter.

This event (Burning Man) is already too well known and too mainstream.
The only way to get back to what it was is to start another.
Or just go to one of the other desert roughly-similar events.
Then shut up about it!

I don't understand why it matters to anyone on ePlaya that some festival failed, let alone relishing their discomfort and mocking them. Some people paid to go a completely different event, which doesn't have any principles of self-reliance. They didn't get what they paid for. That sucks. It's not connected to Burning Man, so I don't see how we're in any position to sneer down at these people simply because we have stinkier asscracks at the end of the week.

Well, it's because it is funny.
It's human nature to make light of the misfortunes of others. These people can surely afford the discomfort that befell them. So it's not laughing at those worse off, or disadvantaged. They will survive. So, you feel bad that people with money and means get laughed at, just like anyone else?

Why the interest here on eplaya? The kind of people who attended that festival include the worst elements, in my biased opinion, of those who ruin the Burn. There is a direct connection, a cross over, as is apparent in the news being played out here on eplaya. Obviously some of us see a connection. Those festival season people embrace and embody a stereotype that is ripe for mocking and social commentary.
And it's funny to me because I am a bad person.

It's funny because, as mentioned, these are the same sort of people who fuck up Burning Man, and because really, anyone who could afford to be there isn't significantly damaged by this like someone who worked and saved all year to get to the playa, drove across the country, then broke down 400 miles out and missed the whole thing.
THAT wouldn't be funny (well... depending on who it was... )
And did you see the promos? Who fell for that and shelled out the money?

Oh yeah, it's funny as hell!

I'll admit that the sad, cheese sandwich takeout box meal, and the FEMA domes were pretty funny to see for a lap-of-luxury festival.

Still, I think what makes me dismayed in that this Fyre festival was not a success is that I really do want it to attract all those "worst elements of Burning Man" types. Hell, even not-so-worst types. Just siphon people away who really aren't invested in attending BM without significant time and effort resource commitment. I want those other festivals to be so awesome that they don't even think about coming back to slum in the dusty ghetto that is Burning Man. I don't want them thinking "oh man, for what we spent we could've just flown into BM instead without the risk!"

I think the Ja Rule stickers are pretty funny, and that of the four logos from the other post that choice number #1 (with the fire sparks/fireworks appearance) is the strongest of the four.

Fyre Media Inc. did not respond immediately Monday to a request for comment. However, organizers had offered an explanation about the festival itself in a statement issued Friday.

"As amazing as the islands are, the infrastructure for a festival of this magnitude needed to be built from the ground up. So, we decided to literally attempt to build a city. We set up water and waste management, brought an ambulance from New York, and chartered 737 planes to shuttle our guests via 12 flights a day from Miami. We thought we were ready, but then everyone arrived," it said, in part.

now THAT'S funny...

I have given this some thought, and am ready to answer WHY this is funny. Comedy, you see, often comes from the juxtaposition of expectation and reality. In this particular instance, useless, inane EDM Party Bros and Woo Girls paid exorbitant amounts of money based upon the promise, not just of music, community, and "intentionality" (the typical draws of hippy dippy Music Festivals), but all that and Luxury, Exclusivity, Celebrity, and Status. What makes it funny is seeing those who are so easily duped into caring at all what a Kardashian has to say or do being tricked so obviously, and suffering for it. Humans like to see the king's pants fall down.

What makes it a thing to talk about on THIS forum, is a year's-long conversation we as a community have had about this exact type of Experience Seeker not only infiltrating our event, but being actively coddled by BMORG, the Commodification Camps, and the EDM Default-World Celebrities who draw them, taking valuable and rare tickets away from people who might otherwise actively contribute to our culture.

So yes, it is hilarious. And appropriate to discuss.

We were joking last night about an idea for a theme camp at an event this weekend.

We'd camp on the opposite side of the river, encouraging people to swim, float, boat over.

Only play Ja Rule and Blink 182.

Serve lettuce and bread, no dressing.

Completely ignore anybody who makes the trek over.

Stickers that say "I survived Fyre festival" in comic sans.

Unfortunately this idea won't come to fruition. Maybe it was the poor planning, and lack of foresight.

Or maybe we just wanted to do something better with our time. It's all open to interpretation.

What I mean is, I don't want to look down on someone for being non-self-reliant at some other event I don't care about and wasn't a LNT/DIY festival anyway. I don't care what those people go off and get into by themselves. I want to see someone who paid $50,000 get handed a white-bread-and-process-American-slice sandwich instead of lobster dinner, in person, on the playa. Then, and only then, will I laugh.

It will happen, though. There have been a few situations along similar lines, there just needs to be a meltdown big enough that BMORG has to stop allowing people to sell a Luxury Burning Man Experience openly.
