we finally set up "Procrastination Camp" on the edge of our village. It consisted of: one folded tarp, one plastic milk crate half-filled with miscellaneous gear, and a sign. Sorry I don't have a photo, we meant to take one but...

Hey, Elliot, maybe you and I could hold down the 'old, wrinkly' part of the hippo ballet.

Burning Man's own chipper chip promotes festivals. One wonders what monies are exchanged between millionaires in the act?
That results in such chipper headlines as:
Is the Fyre F*TM Fall from Grace a Low Point for the Festival Industry?
F* F*TM, A Lofty Vision of Mindful Edutainment?
E* F*TM: How a Festival Straddles Its Country's Cultural Heritage with a Nod to the Future
Russia Just Took EDM Festival Stage Design to the Next Level: Hold on to your Eyeballs
DisneyTM Steps Into the Festival Game with E*TM
Three Transformational Workshops at O* U* A F*TM We Loved
Why C* R* M* & A* F*TM Is a Model for the Festival World
The Ultimate Graduation Gift for Festival Fan$
and
5 All-Natural Ways to Combat Festival Dust
With a banner ad: Find lodging at *TM for your next festival
It's the USA Today of the Festival IndustryTM, with headlines from the PR school of happy
banality.
(It's all A-OK to promote the Nevada regional on a chipper website, because it brings more of the "right kind of people" to the event, right?)

Could you include a screenshot or two of comments suggesting this kind of thing? That post is from a year and half ago, so if anything was planned, they must have not gone through with it last year. Even so, it's sad people think this way. That said, my BS detector was accurate, there are/were no plans to stage fat shaming acts.kaylabird87 wrote:Here's one. Re: I cannot stop laughing.
Via just this screen shot? Sure—in a very literal context.
There is a thread floating around on Reddit that is particularly damning as well, but as stated in my former response, I just don't care to dredge it all up again.
You're right about the age of the posts—this all stuff I've found from the past, and nothing current history pointing toward this year specifically. Maybe the people who posted all this stuff don't even go anymore? Who am I to know.
At this point, I'm going to follow the sage advice of friends and acquaintances, and not put too much worry or concern into what others are doing at BRC.
I sincerely doubt there will be a problem.
And if something happens? I don't need to invest time/money/energy into returning.
Always three sides: two perspectives...and then what actually happens.

Re: Fyre Festival: I cannot stop laughing.
Yeah, my original post way back before the guy asked for the screen shot isn't worded well. I can see where the question came up, and why it was inferred.
The bad that I've stumbled upon isn't directly pointing to this year—but a generality. I think the Reddit thread was fairly outdated too (and was the primary driver). I'm not feeling feisty enough/have the heart to go hunt and cite down all the crap said against larger bodies again. Just nasty threads.
BUT also to note:
When I went to go find the screen shot yesterday, and Googled what I remembered...about an equal amount of body positive results showed up in the results.
The overall concern may be null.

Re: Fyre Festival: I cannot stop laughing.
The concern is misplaced. The people who participate in Burning Man are so very different from the story told by Serious Photographers that you'll soon understand why we get so irritated with media portrayal of the event. It is probably the most accepting place in the world for all body types and clothing choices. And if a herd of disillusioned fratbros says something negative, odds are they will be told to fuck off by everyone in earshot.
