putting posts into the playa?
putting posts into the playa?
Was wondering if anyone has tried putting steel electrical conduit tubes into the playa.
Would like to drive 10' steel tubes into the playa 18" or so. They are hollow of course and seems like it will work. Anyone have experience trying this?

Haven't tried it on the playa but EMT will crimp and bend. Might work with 1 1/2 or larger rigid or IMC.
How would you drive it? Drop hammer or...?

Conduit is not structural and the driving forces will buckle the heck out of it.
Only way would be to pre-drill.
T posts pound in just fine and come in 10' length fwiw.

Re: putting posts into the playa?
We set 300 sticks of emt in the playa last year.
We tested with 3/4" and 1" and drove them both 12 and 18 inches. We ended up using 3/4", mainly due to cost, and drove them 12", mainly due to effort.
Use a T-post setter to drive them in. They mushroom a bit at the top, so you're not going to slide any fittings over them. Twist out with vice grips.

Would like to put 10-15 poles into the playa to hang cord ( non wind resistant ) between them. What's a T-bar? Or any equivalent poles will do.

Like a post driver. It's used to pound in posts.

I'd think you could save a lot of time, effort and conduit damage, by pre-drilling with a wood auger bit.
Just a thought.
