Seeking someone to tow a few trailers from Gerlach.

Post by davemenc » Tue May 23, 2017 9:28 pm

Hi Burners!

My camp needs to move a few trailers stored in Gerlach into Burning Man before the event (early in the pre-week) and then back out afterwards.

Can anyone give me a pointer? I'm thinking there are probably people who do this for a living or part of a living that week but we'd need some kind of recommendation since reliability is essential (I mean, it maybe playa-dusty junk that's been sitting in Gerlach for a year but it's OUR playa-dusty junk and we're very attached to it!).

So if you have gotten stuff towed OR you tow stuff please drop me a line!

Thanks and I'm so excited to be going home with all of you!

Love

Rongo!

Word of caution: there's only ONE way to be sure it gets done. There's no way I'd risk having none of my stuff show up!

While I appreciate the advice, I'm guessing you've never run a big camp. We need to depend on the tractor-trailer driver to get our 45' van out there, our water delivery people to get us water, the pump out people to take the gray water, the generator people to deliver the generator, etc. I simply can't possibly do it all myself.

It's good to be paranoid and great to be 100% self-sufficient but running a big camp requires you to depend on other people. We have alternatives and backups and we're burners so we'll adapt, right?

But I need a primary way to do this before I can figure out the alternatives.

You'd guess wrong. I used to run Johnny & the Playa Cruizers at 9:00 & Esplanade, a bike repair shop with about 100 members, and we hauled our own stuff.
I'd guess you just don't know how to do self-reliance.

I'd guess you just don't know how to do self-reliance for the win!

You run a large camp, get special super-early entry passes, and not one of those EA folks that will be there an extra week have a truck they can use to pull your trailers on their way in?

Back when I did large scale art builds, part of the gig was doing truck runs to town, towing in things etc.

I guess it is the sign of the times.

So I may be wrong, but since you make it sound like you did this last year what did you do then?
