Yeah BIgBlueDoggy, the interesting thing, for me, was the spiders seemed to be able to hunt, or somehow get, those "faerie shrimp" or whatever they're called. I saw a couple eating them. but it seemed they totally left the playa leeches alone? not sure why, since they are soft bodied and all.
I imagine the crop of insects will be varied and wonderful this year. And if indeed there is any standing water out there, the leeches and such should be around. I guess they don't live in the hot springs, well, because hot?

Ygmir, thank you for mentioning the insect issues which can be a problem in the wettest years. The biting bugs really love feathered and store bought costumes for some reason, likely the preservative chemicals mimic their mating pheromones. Be sure to shake them out well before donning them, it helps some, but really once those biters have found a good nest they can't really be gotten rid of. Frequent R.V. showering and changing into clean clothes actually only exacerbate the problem, the bugs really are attracted to the scents of most personal hygiene products, and fresh laundry smells. A good layer of dust over everything, clothes and body is the best deterrent.

I posted a couple of pics of "issues" with the road up to the Hof on the "Hof Party 2017" thread.
dang, not that it's a huge repair, but water is flowing, so that would make repairs difficult. Probably have to wait for the water to stop flowing there. And, since it's a government/USFS road, who knows when they'll actually get to it. I'm hoping the utility companies that need access up there will be more enthusiastic to get the road open.

yep, killlbuck and I back from our first SOAK. set up camp with foxfur in the shade, near a river. absolutely beautiful! saw a few known friends like tatanka, ben tang, dragon pilot, and made some new friends. plan to drag reno peeps next year. just bring mosquito spray.

Yep, SOAK was mighty nice- and not wet. In fact dry, warm to hot. But shade, grass..... well, weed too and lots of it.

HI gang.
yeah, it's nice out there. the area we camped was "playa perfect". So yeah, it'll be insect heaven!!! all the water and food should allow for a great hatch.
It seems there'd be a "deep fryer" camp, and if we had butterfly nets......"playa bug hash" FTW!!!!

been falling trees and doing cemetery work lately, spring has sprung!!
