How not to look like the police

Post by LeonardPotato » Sun Jul 02, 2017 10:25 pm

Working on my bike tonight and putting some lights on. Realized that my lights are clear, blue, and red and they strobe... In the real world this would be an issue, at least in public (impersonating an officer). What are the thoughts on this for Burning Man? Nothing like being told to ride in the dark so nobody thinks you are the law. But now to change it would be added expense.

New guy making too much of a small thing?

Thanks, LP

Being a bike, and all the other blinky things, this is not an issue. Mine are Red front, Blue rear...... Check bike lighting off the prep list.
2nd time better than the first. And the first was pretty Freakin' Great!

There is no policy on specific use of colored lights on bikes or on your person. You use any color, or combination of color changing lights that you wish. Art cars and mutant vehicles are not allowed to mimic anything that appears to be a law enforcement vehicle.

Shouldn't be a problem and you might even be able to have some fun with it. I know I would...heh.

Just don't do anything REALLY stupid.

If the LEO's would stop thinking they are adding to the burn by flashing or lighting up, DURING THE BURN. There is enough of that in the default world. A lit up patrol car for no particular reason is pretty much an act left for DT.

On the other hand, a patrol car idling in the playa being a darkwad is a real hazard. I would challenge the LEO's to be at least creative enough to attach a blinky light to their patrol car.
The next morning you will wake up pretty much your old self except that a very unusual 16 hours will have been added to your store of life experience.

There aren't uniformed bike cops on the playa, so you are unlikely to be mistaken for the law, except by the most intoxicated.

Carry on!

I for one will not be flashing my cherries or berries inside or outside the fence. Well, maybe just a little. I get drunk & shit happens.

Used to be emergency vehicles of any kind and then the Walter guys built a giant fire truck and they changed the rules.
