Uncoupling stuck carport legs
It seems every year I end up with at least a couple of carport legs that are really stubborn and difficult to pull apart when I'm disassembling my shade structure. I'd rather not sand down the paint surface of the sleeves unless I have to. Other than trying to twist them, or tapping lightly on them, any tips or suggestions? I haven't tried something like WD-40 on them yet, any luck along those lines?

I've had luck with a penetrating oil and letting it sit a few mins.burner von braun wrote:It seems every year I end up with at least a couple of carport legs that are really stubborn and difficult to pull apart when I'm disassembling my shade structure. Heat the "receiving pipe" side with a torch. Tap.

Maybe a little bit of dry lubricant, like a graphite or silicone spray? In a pinch you could probably rub some underarm deodorant on there too, that should work.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

Maybe wax the pieces before sliding together, then penetrating oil if needed at removal.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. It's nice to have some additional options.

Two people, pulling and twisting in opposite (obviously!) directions. Tons more effective than one person wrestling with it.
