Kids Tickets and Documentation

Post by kittyrodriguez » Tue Jul 18, 2017 12:31 am

Hey everyone! It's been a minute since I was last on here. Good to see everyone still active on here.

So... getting ready for 2017! Big change this year... we're taking our children to burning man! Woo! What an adventure!

My question is this, the org now requires a "Kids ticket" which is free for 12 and under. I ordered one. But I have looked everywhere and I cannot find any documentation requirements. Anyone have any idea what's actually required? Here at our Texas regionals, all we need is an affidavit of guardianship, which is notarized, so we don't have to bring delicate documents (like birth certificates).

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Hi Kitty,

I asked the same question to an old time veteran last year and they answered this:

If your kid looks like they are just about 12 or could be older, bring a copy of their birth certificate. Otherwise, you don't need a second documentation. The kids ticket is all you need.

Hope this helps!

I wouldn't count on gate to accurately judge how old your child looks. I once gave a ride to someone and her daughter, who looked nowhere close, and they still wanted some sort of proof. They eventually got in, but it was a stressful situation.

Checking around the Kidsville discussion list, it seems most use passports, and some say they have been able to use photocopies of birth certificates. That makes sense - unlike a bar, gate workers aren't going to face a legal penalty if they let someone through based on a copy of what turns out to be false id. Still, more official = better is probably a good rule of thumb.

Even if you aren't camping there, I'd recommend joining the Kidsville email list if you're bringing kids. Lots of good tips there. Parents with kids are welcome to bring them to hang out and play, just be sure to stick around there with them - Kidsville is not a babysitting service.

I just want to say that Kitty & Hubby are raising some really AWESOME Burner-Kidz. These are the Next Generation that will make the burn work long after we adults have returned to the Dust. I've been messin' with this clan for years and hope to see more of 'em!

Just sayin'.... :)

Awwww...

You're making me blush!

Thanks everyone for the info, I'll be sure to bring documentation.

Can't wait to see everyone this year! The kiddos are super excited. The oldest's birthday falls on burn day this year. Quite the birthday party...
