.... or at least that's where I live at the moment. I'm actually Canadian and have been living in the USA since 2001. I've loosley wanted to go to Burning Man for about 3 years now and have tried getting tickets in all of those years but never really put much thought into participating or being part of the greater community. Well this all changed after last year. Again no tickets but I learned about a project attempting to turn a Boeing 747 into an art car and since I've been in the aviation industry for 11 years I HAD to figure out how to be a part of it. I followed it very closely for a while. then one day I ran into one of the volunteers working on the project through Reddit. I flipped out and asked how to be a part of it. And thus participation in the community started. So 2017 will be my year! Its still not looking great for a ticket but I will persevere even if I'm waiting in line for the event and have to beg.
I've been planning my trip out there for months now. I'll be driving my little black Prius out there and for the most part have all my supplies and logistics planned. The last few pieces are getting the ticket, and deciding if I'm going to camp with the 747 people or decide to embrace "radical self reliance" and go it solo. The second option low key scares the crap out of me but carpe diem!

That's a hell of a haul by yourself, I'm impressed. First timer as well, heading out from Kansas City (which I imagine you'll be coming through, about a third of the way there). Also still looking for a ticket, and still haven't hammered out the exact logistics of getting there, but hopefully that falls into place here pretty soon!

Tenacity is a hell of a drug ain't it? I'll actually have my dog in the car for some of the ride. My parents live in Salt Lake City and offered to take vacation to watch my dog during the burn.Dsm253 wrote:That's a hell of a haul by yourself, I'm impressed. lilac-meddow, Welcome to eplaya. Have you scoured Craig's List? Did you post an intriguing plea here in the tickets wanted thread? As far as your plan to, "Its still not looking great for a ticket but I will persevere even if I'm waiting in line for the event and have to beg." That is not going to happen. You will get kicked out of the area and wonder what to do next. Do NOT drive to the event without a ticket in hand. You can't hang out at the nearest town. You can't park on the shoulder of the road with a sign. You could go back 80 miles and camp out at Walmart until they evict you. Don't leave home without a ticket in hand. Good luck. We'll hug you at the Meet & Greet on Wednesday night.

Yeah, what Ratty said. Don't DO NOT DO FUCKING NOT hit the road without a ticket. That is extremely likely to end well.
That said, I hope you can make it. Camping solo ain't no thang, it's a fine way to go. You sound (uh, besides the ticket thing) to pretty much know where your towel is at - so WELCOME.
