Just unexpectedly inherited a ticket, hello and help!
Long story short friend of friend had to bail last minute and since they were only a group of two, I was called up and offered to take his spot.
Never been to Burning Man and outside of talks with former attendees know very little about the event.
I am a 30 year old male living in San Francisco and as of now my group consists of me and my buddy whose friend bailed.
We are first time burners and trying to do our best to prepare so that maximize the Black Rock City experience and contribute to the community.
Most of the people I know from SF are in tight camping situations, so we are looking to learn more about how to approach the camping game as, well, pretty much everything in general.
Hello fellow burners, it's a pleasure to take part!

Prepare, bring shade, and don't watch any videos or look at pictures of the event so you can go in with open eyes and no expectations.

Over prepare for a week of desert (dry) camping.
Read EVERYTHING!
Shade is paramount.
Bring extra yummies, so that you can gift your neighbors.
Lend a helping hand.
Say Yes. Smile often.
Leave No Trace.
Welcome home.

Welcome to our dust.
There are links in my signature below for first timers as well as the preparation guide. Read both of them twice.
See you in Black Rock City.

Welcome Aboard.
You can do this.

Get a spreadsheet going with an example pack list and start running it every day. You have a lot of work to do, but absolutely can pull this off.
Re: Just unexpectedly inherited a ticket, hello and help!
Spreadsheets are wonderful! . . . Although I admit, I like Word documents even better. I use "insert table" and then make two columns of lists per page, with a small ticky box on the left so I can check things off as I pack them.
Camp furniture, Tools, Bag of Wandering, Clothes, Food, Drink, First Aid, and Miscellaneous. All gets checked off.
If I find that I am missing something as I pack and must buy it on the road, I circle the item and then I pack the list in my car bag so I know what to get and can check it off. Always pack your packing list! Not only can it help you shop last minute, it can help quiet your mind when you wonder for the 13th time if you've packed such-&-such an item.
The final pages have TO DO and TO BUY sections as well, and a section with friends addresses, a few events, and work shifts.
Welcome, bronzeangel!

Hi there! Not sure where you are in your planning game, but I thought I'd drop a line and let you know that we have plenty of room in our camp right now if you're looking for a place to park your car and pitch your tents. We end up adopting orphans and/or virgins every year and and have met some of our favorite fellow burners that way way, and we're happy to share our infrastructure and wisdom with anyone who can benefit. We're Street Life (Sesame Street meets hip hop, because, why not?) and we'll be at 9:30 & Eulogy this time around. Drop us a line at [email protected] if you're interested or have questions. Hope to see you out there!

Re: Just unexpectedly inherited a ticket, hello and help!
Its not good nor is it normal camping, so read up on it. What you prepare for really depends on how long you are planning. My first year I was on playa for 3 nights and 2 days. You don't need a lot to be there for a couple of days and a 2 person camp is easy.
If you're going for a short period of time then screw shade, chairs, etc. You'll probably never be in camp anyways. Find a place to camp then prep a day pack and go to Center Camp.

Re: Just unexpectedly inherited a ticket, hello and help!

I've been going since it began and it's different every year.
That actually is part of the fun what do I have to have is what I'm going through right now and secondly what do I want to wear and thirdly what do I want to eat you're not gonna know any of this. Just be sure you have enough water and protein to survive and your fave it will be cold it will be hot but if you're really interested in what's going on you may not even notice. XOXO
