Messages getting stuck in outbox

I'm getting messages 'stuck' in my outbox, sometimes for hours. Anyone else seeing this?

I've noticed they stay there until the recipient sees/opens them. At least that's how I understand it to work. But yea, some of mine stay for days, weeks....

They stay in the outbox until the recipient opens it, then it goes to the sent box...

I have 30+ messages in my outbox. People post and don't come back, or they dodge the mod. Meh.

This is confusing behavior. Had someone pm me twice recently because of this. Is there an board setting to instead just put it in sent? No other messaging systems work like this.

I like this system. It's more information than I get from other systems.

Sorry, it may be alien to you but PHPBB has operated that way for many, many years and it's been something of a standard on message boards.

I'd argue vbulletin, which was the beast of boards, did not use this concept. But whatever. On to other things.

Correct, VBulletin tracks messages with a read receipt which permits you to see which of multiple recipients have read the message. In one way the phpBB system is more usable as it permits you to edit the message in the Outbox up until the time it is read by the recipient. On the other hand, the nomenclature used is confusing and different from the way most email clients work. Why call it a Sent folder instead of a Read folder? When does a message get moved from the Outbox to the Sent folder when it is sent to multiple recipients? Once you know the quirks of the system though, it's not a point requiring further discussion, but I wouldn't argue it's intuitive.

I dunno but if eplaya is competing w the ux of fb and Reddit / other social channels every bit of usability may have impact.
