Hello- I'm a film projectionist in the default world and will be returning for my second Burn, three weeks from now. I've recently had an idea for a projection piece on the playa that I would love to bring to realization, projecting 16mm film loops that I would eventually be burning in the projector gate. Also, ideally I would be somewhat mobile- at least not locked down to projecting from one camp, or one fixed point on the playa. I'm seeing if I could pull this together in the few weeks before departing but my biggest question is about power- seeking some advice on what I would realistically need for power- is a generator the one and only option? And would I be limited to buying, or renting, my own generator or might there be an option of sharing power with another camp or artcar? Please excuse the naivete here- it's terra incognita for me and I only conceived of this idea in the past few days.
thanks,
Tim

Re: 16mm projector power inquiry
Look at your projector, should say somewhere how much power it uses.
No way to tell otherwise.
If you can't find the tag, figure out how many watts the bulb uses. I'm guessing that will be 95% of the power consumption.
When you get that info we can see where this goes.

Following up on the projector- I would plan to use an Eiki SlimLine. I don't have it in front of me, but the manual lists the specs as:
power consumption: 430 to 470 watts
power requirement: Models available from 100 to 240V AC, 50 or 60 Hz

A small quiet "suitcase" generator is your only reliable and practical option.
Depending on someone else you don't even know to provide your power might work.
