Remembered yesterday that my usually trusty travel bicycle pump died (exploded) after last year's burn, so a new mini bike pump is on the way. Also, a large bag of inexpensive cushy grey socks for my pasty white tootsies

Still procrastinating but I got my bike ready today. The day is young. I have just one major task then shop and pack. 13 days till take off.

Finished y very first Burning Man sewing project! I replaced the non-snapping snaps on a leather and fur coat with super neat looking hook and eye fasteners!

And I bought baby wipes and jumbo sized ziplocs. But I'm WAY more excited about the coat

Things have been crazy busy, but we've managed to make some progress. Gave my trike another cleaning, checked all the bits, and took stock of things. The lighting string I had on it was having some issues, so I've gotten in touch with my lighting guys to get a replacement string. We'd also gotten a new power solution sorted out for both trikes this year, where the old one used a clunky battery pack that reminded me of an 80's boom box, the new setup feels custom-designed for our purposes. In a way, it was - with our needs in mind he found an ideal solution during a trip overseas. I still need to give the bike a good going over with a waxy lube, as well as locate the headlight (which I expect I'll find as I re-pack the bike bin).

After lots of searching, I found buttons that work for my space pirate coat, and the re-buttoning is finished. All other playa sewing projects are in the home stretch, to boot.



We'd picked up a new string of LED lighting to use in the Brainy Bar. I got that unboxed and tested, then removed all the excess packaging and got it and the rest of the bin it goes into the playa in all packed and ready.

I'm also really happy to say that I finished production as well as bottling for the 2017 batches of my limoncello of doom.



I didn't have any of my custom labels left, plus I'm using different size/shape bottles this time around, so I needed to re-workd the sticker design for a new size and got that ordered, they should be here in less than a week. Getting so close!

Dry food bins primarily packed. Clothes bins too. Washed the red velvet rope sleeve, and the camp pennants.

Checked all lights (for body, tent, and bike), replaced batteries, made sure I had enough spare batteries, ditched the ones that succumbed to the playa, and ordered a few more.
Bought most of the shelf-stable food.

While searching for a cool jacket like Trilo's, I found a sweet vest for $4. The jacket search continues.....

No last minute packing for me. I got summoned up to Kansas on 8 hours notice and have been busy placing my father in an assisted living facility after a sudden decline in his health. Naturally I remembered about five things that I forgot to pack since I'm not going to drive 500 miles back home after I am done up here. I'm heading west to Black Rock City starting 8/15.

But life goes on...I have my camper, clothes, water, and food. The forgotten things are just fluff. Family comes first.

De-mooped all the food I bought yesterday - holy packaging hell.
Figured out a cheap option for bicycle baskets.
Bought fabric ribbons for bike decoration (and on sale too!)
Figured out final quantities for the group camp meal I'm making this year - 30 mouths to feed.
Car check-up - tires, fluid levels, oil change etc.

Got the travel briefcase out and put all the paperwork in it. Made a note not to forget it. Made a note to look at my notes.

Charged my marine battery today, woo! It was DEAD. New rebar tent stakes, shade structure, sunscreen. Extra bi-fil tape.

And... freakout commenced. I leave in 7 days. What the hell am I doing going on a 20-day camping trip in the desert?!?!

Test run of the new Trash Can Evap Unit complete. Had one bad plug and one bad float switch. New out of the box. Gotta love cheap Chinese parts that come in a bag of five for $5......

Bought some boots online. I pray to holy heaven that they'll fit. They're a brand I've had good luck with, both in terms of fit and not requiring much breaking-in.

My feet are so annoying. They are slightly wide. Not a full size wide, just slightly. Just enough to make 60% of all standard Medium width painful. Total crapshoot.

tomorrow is another volunteer opportunity at BM HQ. I'm thoroughly addicted to going there. We have this one last day to finish up sewing and organizing. Maybe on Sunday I'll start packing. Yes. Sunday.

Bike is prepped. All lubed up with silicone lube, new batts for all the lights. new tennis balls. everything tweaked and adjusted.


What is not getting posted are the multitude of little tasks/things that don't warrant a place on the list, yet when doing all of them, take as long as items on the list. I can't be the only one....

We got a bunch done in the last couple days. I made a preliminary storage run to put my eyeballs on what's there and will need to go, no surprises. I went through some other gear and got the battery bank for the other trike out, everything tested out okay and it's good to go. The replacement controller arrived from my lighting guy, everything's sorted there. Tomorrow I'll finish the last of my trike maintenance and prep and hopefully get the bin put together for that.

I've gotten all the generator stuff together as well, and will do the maintenance on that and get that support bin packed up as well, and start on the tool bins tomorrow too (I hope).

We made a run up to SF to hit our favorite farmer's market and a couple other shops for supplies. Getting all the ducks in a row so we can do our personal food pre-cooking. After that we hit up a local market to get some of the other foody bits we'll need for that, and at the same time we grabbed a bunch of the rest of our supplies (including beer & champers, woohoo). Still lots and lots to do, but the end is in sight.

Got my hitch wiring harness installed, and hitch cargo lights installed too. Can never have too many lights for safe transport!
