insomnia

Post by swampdog » Fri Dec 10, 2004 3:25 pm

on insomnia - I HATE it. I am a walking library of what doesn't work. Everything I've tried has either been ineffective or just trades off a no-sleep hangover for some other type of hangover. Alcohol - takes a LOT to put me down, and I don't like wasting a good drunk/hangover. Ambien - throws off my cycle so if I take one tonight I pretty much have to take one tomorrow, etc, until I can afford the Night of No Sleep At All. Also, it puts me so far down I go into dream deficit.

Gave up caffiene almost completely quite a while ago.

I have a ton of mental games to keep the brain occupied but not interested so sleep can sneak up on me. My fave is, picture a room, give it a color, a person, and an activity. Then do another. And another. Try to keep them all in your head at once, or at least go back to start and repeat them all. I usually go by alphabet. Alice is playing air hockey in the aqua room. Sometimes it works, if I don't get bored and quit. Or get too interested.

The absolute worst for me is the "low bounce". Go to bed at a reasonable time, tired and groggy. Fallllll asleep nicely. Then, half an hour later BANG wide fuckin' awake.

Lately I'm just accepting it. I'm awake. I'll sleep when I'm ready. I work from home, so I can try to be productive. Try to read a good book. Catch up on movies.

I'm inspired to try Melatonin again, p'raps in combo with Valerian root (although melatonin didn't work last time I tried, maybe 'cause I was trying to take it when needed - eg, to sleep tonite, not to restore a pattern).

Anyway, it was nice to read this and feel not-alone. Thanks.

melatonin takes a bit of tweaking to get the dose right. NOt enough is, well, not enough. Too much, for me anyway, gives me unshakeable night terrors, but with ultra deep REM sleep.

Pair it with tryptophan and give it a whirl. I would start with a six hour time release 3mg cap.

And Rian, what were you asking about my posterior?? How is it?? Good... should it be bad???

Look, the wahl's a trusty little friend--I'm on my 3rd. The hitachi is for over the moon and out around the sun.

Yes, you can have them all.

I even have the Monica Lewinsky in the shape of a cigar novelty suvineer.

Now, time release melatonin does the job. Super healthy and non-addictive. When the going gets tough add a dose of tryptophan.

Well, there's that one on the Santacon site... the other one will frighten grown men, and cause heart attacks in middle aged women...

I'm having many duplicates made...
