Flying solo from Miami - Virgin

ticket in hand, flight booked, transport arranged via Burner express from Reno. bike and water ready for pick up at BRC, lights packed, first aid kit packed and still trying to figure out the shade situation food. Will be camping in my little 2 person tent. Where,... TBD. Excited and worried at the same time. do not want to be a sparkling pony.

Hi there - i have a question. How do you be prepared without bringing a whole bunch of necessities if you are going solo?

Personally I am mentally preparing to go solo - I am a woman, 45 and am navigating through the abyss.

Quite frankly I am not keen on going solo as a one woman army brigade may be a costly and frustrating experience. Can't imagine hauling food, outfits, shade, water you name it but I do want to be somewhat comfortable.

FFS i haven't erected a tent in years!! Nevermind solo.

I traveled to India alone - but this is a whole other worldly trip.

Would be flying in from Vancouver......however I embarking on meeting other burners in my community.

You DO need to be self reliant and it ISN'T cheap and easy. You don't want to do that, therefor you very much don't belong there.
Before you or anyone pulls that "radical inclusiveness" line, remember the "radical self reliance" one too.

A large part of the camaraderie and magic is that when you're in BRC, you're among others who wanted it bad enough to do what it takes to live in a harsh climate in the middle of nowhere.
How much camaraderie do you have with everyone else at Disneyland?

Wow. You just do it. We had two women in our camp who both came in solo, both older than you are. While we shared resources, they had each arrived with enough water, etc. to survive. We provided comfort, and helped one with a better tent (hers had too much mesh), but otherwise, they'd have been just fine on their own. They pretty much didn't bring a lot of fancy outfits, had too much food like everyone else, and sufficient water. Everything else was gravy.

Do a little research, buy a tent, and set it up somewhere. Unless you are physically disabled, you should be able to handle that. Go on a weekend camping trip! Best wishes for 2018.

I know I sound like a dickhead beating you down, but it's a reality check.
You're welcome in Black Rock city. An I-don't-want-to-do-what-it-takes attitude isn't. You said you can't imagine hauling food, water, shade etc but you want to be comfortable.
To go to Burning Man, you've got to start imagining all that and working to make it happen. What do you think Burning Man would be if everyone flew in, booked accommodations and was a spectator?

You can do it, but you gotta want it. If you don't want it that bad...

Thank you. Yes, I have a tiny registered theme camp of five people, with a plus one who was more of a guest (media, working on playa). No showers, meals, or power other than some solar. We have a spare monkey hut which we sometimes put up to prevent others from suffering. Four of us travel together with the pickup and utility trailer. Our camp is comfy to us, but there is no AC, no RVs, and no amenities other than that which each member provides for themselves. Well, we all share the propane stove/oven, and do communal ice runs. Nothing a solo traveler could not do for themselves.

We are "dirt burners".

Honestly, you can do this. Find a few other virgins and join forces.
