just wait till we have water wars
Oh yeah, we know, we're waiting for the invasion. What amazed me when I was in Norcal and Nevada was that hundreds of years ago when the pioneer/wild west types were riding around in the hot sun with little idea of where they were heading and probably no idea where the next jug of water was coming from.

I love the bell and shots and bell and porn ideas. Although I think the porn needs to be for less time and more frequently- who's going to stick around for that long to make the experiment work? We could have 'official erection checkers' dressed up in lab coats with rulers, and every so often at a certain signal they'd all start yelling 'erection checking! drop your pants!' Er, I seem to be merging with the eplaya thread here.

and I still want to know how we measure women's reaction to porn. Does someone get to be the wet panty checker?
It's going to be alright.

Are you saying you can be dishonest about the wet panties?

some people produce more, ahem, fluid than others... or at different times during the month, or the day, or the year... hydration levels influence it... like drinking the night before... or any other chemicals, for that matter...
lots of room for variance...

Okay, sure- the accuracy can be way off. But "honest"?

Never mind.

what she said.

and i was thinking honest not in a "we'd be lying about being aroused by falsley producing fluids" kind of way, but honest in a "we're probably actually way more aroused than a possible lack of fluids would indicate". it's waaaaay hard to try to keep yer heart rate down when yer turned on.

Don't know where to put this idea but thought I would throw it out here. Since there will be NO moonlight in 2005 ... stuff with lights and darkness will work great. Also, since it is kinda dusty ... lasers work well ... so I just had this idea while I was sitting out on the deck, and thought I would run in and share it because I think it is cool, interactive, and something *I* probably cant produce but maybe someone else can.

It is almost a takeoff on the "shadow dancing" at HI! But different.

Imagine low platform on the playa, just to keep people's feet off the dirt and within a certain boundary. These people are dancing. They are wearing a black suit covered with small mirrors, maybe a 1/2 inch square, and wearing a black helmet with a face shield that can protect their eyes enough from a direct laser strike ... and low powered lasers, maybe like laser pointers of different colors (probably red and green), arrayed around them in a circle maybe 20 feet out from the center pointed towards the center ... as they dance the lasers strike the mirrors and the light goes out at all kinds of crazy angles.

And ... people that have their own laser pointer could interact too, adding additional beams to the show. It gives those people with the laser pointers that sometimes piss people off a way to constructively participate and actually add something to the art. A way of turning a negative into a positive.

Well, I have been thinking about that ...

So imagine seeing this enclosure with wildly changing laser beams eminating out of it. (I am expanding on the shadow dancing idea here) ...

One side of the enclosure is a screen (sheet?) where you can see the dancers backlighted by changing colored lights. The other sides of the enclosures are mirrored to reflect many beams that hit them up and out of the enclosure. Beams that strike the sheet simply make dancing colored spots that enhance the effect. The lasers could even be mounted on a circular ring that rotates so rather than the "disco ball" rotating, the lasers do. People could don a mirrored vest and chaps or possibly a smock ... and helmet and dance, dance, dance. If the beams are difficult to see, a little bit of smoke can be generated, it wont take much, but there is usually enough dust in the air to do the trick.

I think the basic concept is sound but I am not going to have the time and resources to follow through with it this year.

Heh, anything longer than the current 7-month would be fine. I say 7 months because around MY house December is a mess. It takes me a week or two to decompress from the holidays so then we are in January. 7 months later we are in August and shipping to BRC.

Since THIS particular idea isn't all that theme-centric, it could be built for 2006 if I had some storage space. Knowing me, the way I would approach it is to build it in sections and haul the sections as they are built to storage in Reno and stage it there.

So ... maybe I WILL build something like this ... for 2006 ... starting in January. Now to get a shipload of laser pointers.

Super neat idea, Geekster! I confess to a natural phalic desire to "shine my beam" at things. A way to impose my manhood on the world?

On our mutant vehicle, we had a 1,000,000 candle power swivel police light covered by a congo blue theatrical gel so the pilot could shine this makeshift blacklight on anything flourescent and give it some major pop. Imagine dancers in the middle in the mirror costumes you propose, and more dancers or artwork in a ring around them dressed in all flourescent colors. Subtitute the lasers with a safer blacklights. What do you think?
