I'd be willing to bet that many who have taken Junjo road actually found it to be slower than slogging through traffic on the paved roads.

Humidity is normal @ 10-15% in the afternoons. While dry conditions make it feel a tad cooler, they keeps the fire danger high.
We had an active fire pop up in the Virginia City area (120 mi S of BRC) late this morning. It's at 150 acres and growing right now.

FWIW, "experts" say that because of the wet weather, followed by the heat wave, the playa is going to be great -hard and flat and less dusty than usual.

I don't know... the last time there was a lake into the spring, was 2008. And the playa that year was EXTREMELY soft and dusty.

We'll see who's right, the officials, or the experienced burners.

I'm pretty sure the "experts" are right on some level, like for the wind sailers or rocketry club, but for 70000 strong hoard of the unwashed shuffling their feet for days on end... yeah.

Yes there will be dust, there always is. I'm hoping tha the deep water penetration we had will have smoothed out, flattened and hardened up the big dune spots

What they don't talk about yet is the wet low at Puerto Vallarta that may toss a tropical system up the Baja peninsula over the next 10 - 12 days, and the remnants of Harvey rapidly reforming in The Gulf and landing in southern Texas on a NW track.

We may get a rare "slingshot" of tropical moisture getting injected early September with two tropical remnant lows pulling a moisture plume up north of usual tracks.

Having some thick plastic bags for emergency footwear might be a good idea.
