Waking-up after the burn to discover that cords attaching a black mannequin , piece of art if 1.8m had been stollen is not a nice wake-up

Some people came bad and leave bad as I presume they left already as it happens after 2am

But not an uncommon story.
We never know if it's a targeted incident or a drunken moment.

There have been signs that some are coming to BRC specifically to forage for money and articles. Many large camps post a guard for the major burns, if not ensure they have someone present at all times. Surrounding camps learn to watch for those that don't belong.

Common fallacy is that BRC is a magical other world... reality is it's composed entirely of people from the "default world", and the more time goes by and more mainstream it gets, the more similar BRC and "defaultia" get.
I don't leave ANYTHING unlocked or trust the honesty of the general public in BRC, any more than in an alley in Detroit.

For many years now Burn night has been a free for all looting night.

Unfortunate. The organizers need a thievery log. Artists are idealistic and rarely face theft. At the event you have professional thieves and opportunistic thieves. Hope the Artery can create a solution.

Someone stole Fernando, our Malebox, from in front of our camp on Wednesday night. He's been attending with us for 13 years, and had the name of every campmate since 2004 on the mailbox. I am devastated. I know it can happen, but it still erodes my trust. No, not a prank, it was outright theft. I was going to bring him in for Burn night.

I used to leave all sorts of stuff in my alley in Detroit. None of it ever stolen. Including my 1991 Ford Ranger with the key broken off in it.
