Deep playa art
Building something that I want in deep playa. Do you need a permit or anything or can you just drop it?

Renegade art is prohibited and will be removed.
Go to the ARTery (6:30 @Rod's Rd.) and register as "Walk-In" art.
Guidlines and link to a registration form you can fill out before you get arrive:

Good luck!

Re: Deep playa art
The reason for registering is to be sure the art itself leaves no trace - you can easily do. But more important, anything left by visitors to the art, is completely removed with no trace.
Make your art and document it! And maybe follow on with more projects.

I think renegade art is extra special due to it's clandestine nature. If it's not too big I would just go renegade, but mark it and set it up legit like of course... move quickly, like thieves in the night. It adds to the intrigue and half-baked theories.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

Re: Deep playa art
The project ended up finding a forever home, right in front of our camp instead of deep. A pleasant turn of events. It seemed as though that's right where it belonged the whole time as it drew people in, got stragglers talking to other folks in our camp, and a whole lot of heckling bait... worth it.
The renegade piece is being worked on and will have to wait until next year. But hey, who knows... at this point I've accepted that if one thing is constant; it's change.

Re: Deep playa art
One thing about renegade art, be sure you aren't usurping placed art which may be late setting up. The Artery uses GPS and places markers on the ground, but these can be difficult to discern, even with a human guide. Registering as a drop in helps avoid this conundrum, so consider doing it that way.
I love little renegade pieces by the trash fence. Happy little surprises.

Re: Deep playa art
I did a placed piece back in 06, so I am hardly an expert. It was called Five Minutes After, and was placed at five after the noon clock behind the man, but the placer had given my spot to a different piece. I was still in nearly the same spot, which was okay, and how I learned about the placing process.
Mine was not big at all, it easily could have been a renegade.
