I can't figure out where to put this post - this seemed like the best fit. Moderators, please feel free to move it if you think it belongs elsewhere.
It's hard to find people who play Go (called Weiqi in Chinese and Baduk in Hangul) in my area. Putting not too fine a point on it, everyone I know who can play it at all is someone I taught myself, though I'm not very good.
I have a feeling that I'm more likely to find at least one more player in a group of the type who is likely to attend Burning Man.
I'll be bringing a travel set with me (the roll-up board kind with decent-sized stones) so if anyone knows how to play, I'd be grateful if we'd meet up.
Thanks!

Maybe... but maybe not? A board game? Is that really what you want to be doing out there, or for that matter, what other people want to do?
You can play that game any time you want online, or in a park, or with someone via Craigslist. Unless you're bringing some giant board with flaming stones or something, what is the novelty of playing a board game like that at your one-week vacation in the desert?
You're attending an event with some of the most interesting things to do and see on earth. Don't occupy your time there doing things you can do any other time of the year.

In defense of GVI, 2018 will be the first year on the playa. The thought is what do you do to keep busy during those long days of boredom and down time.
There will be almost no down time in BRC---unless you really want it. It's a non-stop, 24 hour a day city. There are dozens of events going on simultaneously. Add the art and installations, the people, the mutant vehicles, the clubs, the bars, the roving entertainment---you will not be bored and looking for something to occupy your time.
My first year, I brought a frisbee, a deck of cards and a few other things to keep busy with. If I recall, I tossed all the crap in the fire once I understood what this amazing city was all about.

Our first year, we brought a friend along. He brought an entire box of books. Not just one or two, a boxful. Just something to lug out and back.
We have a light up frisbee which has been back and forth to the playa for over ten years in our light box. A campmate might have used it once.
Bring the set if you really want to, but chances are you'll lose your ability to concentra ... shiny!

Get an old billboard vinyl, make the playing mat human size.
People are the stones so bring some cool body paint to mark them.
Integrate Jell-O shots and elements of strip-twister and make it messy.
Have some cool tunes and a PA.
Maybe a couple lifeguard chairs for the “players” to call the action.
And an MC to make it fun.
“That’s a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off”
See, now that is an event appropriate presentation of a classic board game.
