Just saying hello. I’ve been lurking for months, reading and learning as much as I can, in preparation for my first Burn in 2018. I know it’s early, but I’m a planner.
About me: I’m 49, from Chicago, and I’m a construction worker.

Re: Hello
I’m excited about seeing artwork that I can’t see anywhere else. I’m not an artist myself, but I love looking at other people’s work. Just yesterday I was looking at pictures of Tara Mechani from the 2017 burn. So complicated and so subtle at the same time. I love the juxtaposition of the divine feminine with cold, hard, stereotypically masculine mechanics.
I’m excited about the event from a building/problem solving perspective. I like the challenge of surviving and thriving in the desert. There’s a regional burn by me that doesn’t interest me at all. Somehow I need the dust and the heat and the logistic nightmare.
And there’s something else I find hard to describe. I’m just drawn to the event for reasons I don’t really understand. Like it’s not something to visit and attend - more like something inside me that has to come out. Remember the movie Close Encounters if the Third Kind, where people became inexplicably obsessed with going to that place? And the guy was sculpting it out of his mashed potatoes? It’s kind of like that, lol.

Hey there, welcome to ePlaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me
