Hi. I’m new too!

Post by VeracityInBloom » Mon Nov 13, 2017 12:36 am

Hi, I’m Veronica. I work full time as a Data analysit for a non profit in LA called PATH. Ive been in The Homeless Services field for the last 12 years and have met a lot of incredible people as a result. A lot of burners! I also have a couple friends who do poi and have been begging me to go since college. After years and years or failed planning, giving up tickets due to funerals and weddings, this year is (finally!!) the year! I’ll be attending with my best friend from Berkeley and a couple others. No camp yet.

Along with everyone else on here I’m excited to be getting a jump on this. I camp quite often during the summer but this will be my first desert adventure and I’m a bit nervous about a couple things. I’ve seen a lot of posts regarding makeshift shade structures but I’m wondering how expensive all the PVC pipe and tarps typically cost? Also, was graywater difficult to deal with on your fist trip, for all you Veterans?

Lastly...., is it is just me or is there almost NO plus size burner visibility on the Internet? I’m so inspired and already planning out my costumes and pieces but it would be nice to see other beautiful rounder and curvier women like myself radically expressing themselves in addition to all the slim sparkly unicorns that are all over Google. Are there any comprehensive sites or galleries I can look at for reference and inspiration?

Thanks so much for reading this! :)

Veracity in bloom, Shade can be simple or ornate. (by the way, WELCOME to ePlaya.) Tarps come in all price ranges. Just stay away from the cheap blue ones. An 'easy up' will work if secured properly. No guarantees. Buy a costco car port Build something from bits and pieces. One year I got by with an umbrella tree.
Don't shower. You can take a small bath in a bus tub and clean up with baby wipes. Do your dishes with sanitizing wipes. Spray them off afterwards. Another tub works fine for evaporating your water.

You know all of this info is available here. Everything you can think of has been discussed.

Don't believe the photos and videos you see. Not all burners are skinny 20 year olds. Go to the 'clothing and costume' section here. Read all about it.

Hey there, welcome to ePlaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome!

You are already on the path of getting ready! The event is just a wilderness campout with 70,000 people and a lot of dust.

The monkey hut has many discussions, photos and websites. They are inexpensive, you can resuse the pipe for irrigation at home, the tarp and rope is reuseable at home. Usually around the burner community, there are tons - literally of rebar stakes changing hands for free. Unfortunately the price of a 20x20 heavy duty silver tarp more than doubled over the years and the tarp is the cost driver. The other route is a staked-down Costco carport, which has good resale value and uses around the home.

There are all body sizes and types at the burn, photos and videos of the burn are not the burn. There are several discussions of clothing on ePlaya. I'm an advocate of costumes and style as a creative outlet and conversation starter, but many wear camping clothes for comfort especially around camp.

Grey/gray water is a PITA and there are many discussions of it on ePlaya.
