Hi Gang!! thanks for the birthday wishes! It's nice people care.
Heading up to the Hof, to close it for the winter, and hopefully seal the bats out....it turns out that sitting idle all summer, allowed a bunch to move into the "belfry", and the bat people tell me by now most should have moved out for the winter, so, heading up to try to find and seal entrances, drain the water tank and other things for the long winter silence.
I'm figuring, Hell or high water, we'll have a Hof party next year, and if the main road it still out, I'll make a dozen signs to direct folks in "the back way" and patrol the route for strays......haahaha

Re: The Bar 2017 Edition
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YGMIR!
I AM GLAD YOU'RE WITH US.
Now it's off to the library to prepare to write an abstract for class. Due Saturday. The class is Plate Tectonics - graduate level, and the abstract is part of a larger10+ page term paper that's due in December. We're supposed to write it like a grant proposal. I'm either doing mine on rates of plate movement on a divergent boundary (North Atlantic Mid-ocean Ridge modeling as opposed to mantle plume hot spot volcanism at Iceland, or a new type of isostatic equilibrium on oceanic plates above a mantle plume hot spot in Hawaii).
I could have done something on continental plate hot spots, perhaps in Wyoming or Yellowstone, but it's too close to the work I already have done professionally to feel like I'm cheating myself out of a new experience. BRC taught me to open my heart, my eyes, and my arms to new and different experiences to round out my knowledge base, and I'll go the road less traveled from here on. I'm definitely not going to cheat on the work, why cheat myself? Lesson learned and embraced.

(If the deal were on, I might consider a few minor colds in exchange for brain cell rejuvenation)
Good Morning Bar! Had a good day yesterday with Lucky 420, and Pinemom, raking gravel for a couple of hours in the Reno Playa Art Park to help get ready for Grand Re-Opening last night. Then saw it in it's lit up splendor last night.
Coffee perking somewhere, *spies ECM at end of bar* o.k., dust to be sprinkled, and I think bacon somewhere...

Re: The Bar 2017 Edition
Dang, Elorrum... somebody broke the ladder AGAIN! Hopefully, I can find time to repair it later today.
Re: The Bar 2017 Edition
Elorrum... Photofuckit is now charging hundreds of dollars a year for hosting photos so we can use them elsewhere, like here. In other words... it is harvest time -- they want to harvest our money, after they have been growing us with a free service for years. That's why your bar photo disappeared. I'm posting as attachment to the post instead now.
The good news... is I snagged the bar photo already. They blocked downloading -- had to take a screen shot.
And I fixed the ladder -- with rustier nails this time, so it will hopefully stay fixed.
How did you know I'm a huge fan of good breads?

Re: The Bar 2017 Edition
Mornin' campers! And good tidings to my fellow bar peeps. I come to you today with some rather modest gloating. I'm in a "Survivor Pool" with the NFL. It's also called a "suicide pool" or "last man standing" pool. It began back on week one (September 10) and the object is that you pick one team to win outright (I chose the Pittsburgh Steelers to beat Cleveland at home). The catch is that you can only pick a team once, and since there are 17 weeks to a season, if the pool lasts that long clearly you have to pick some underperformers. Week 2 I picked Oakland. Week 3 Green Bay (won in overtime). Week 4 Philadelphia. Week 5 Seattle. Week 6 Houston. Week 7 Buffalo. Week 8 Cincinnati. Week 9 LA Rams. Week 10 Detroit. Week 11 New Orleans (won in overtime). After tonight's game I'll decide who to pick in Week 12. I'm leaning Atlanta but I don't like picking teams coming off of a short week. And I want to keep in my "hip pocket" some of the better teams for weeks 15-16-17 such as New England, Minnesota, Kansas City (against Miami week 16...maybe), and Carolina. We began with 254 participants who each ponied up $50 and after Kansas City being upset by the New York Giants, of the 15 of us who were left that knocked out 11. So then there were four. The prize pool is $12,700 if there's just one winner. If nobody gets knocked out by the end of the season we all get $3,175. So if you think you know something about football, I'd love to hear your feedback. Up until now, since I don't know shit about the NFL, I've just been picking the prettiest uniforms.

Re: The Bar 2017 Edition
Well, update: The Suicide Pool is over! The four of us remaining decided to split the money so each of us walks away with $3,175. I have to take seven people from my office out to lunch (it will be tax deductible) but that seems like a small price indeed. Yeah me!
