From Minnesota and looking to come in 2019!
My names Gavin and I am i guess what you'd call a "Burner Virgin" or just really brand new to all of this, I am 18 but I am planning on going to the 2019 Burning Man with a friend. My main question/concern is do I have to join a bigger camp or "Theme Camp" to simply have a place to sleep? Or can I claim a spot on the playa and set up next to my car with a small tent and some sleeping bags preferably? Otherwise, do i have to spend time searching to join a larger camp? Also when coming into the event, having brought all the necessary supplies and gear do we have to talk to camp personnel to verify we have basic survival gear? and get approved? I really want to get involved but I just need some guidance and help to understand the culture and rules!
Anyway, any clarification or guidance would be amazing and super helpful!!

Hey there, welcome to ePlaya!
To answer your questions, no you don't need to join a theme camp. You can find a space in the open camping areas and set up a tent and whatever.
No. No one will be inspecting or quizzing you to make sure you are prepared.
Make sure you read the survival guide and the first timers guide and you'll find it answers most your questions.

Welcome Aboard!
You're already asking the right questions, you'll be fine.

So there is no inspection gate? I assumed we talked with personnel before being admitted with your vehicle, and on to the spot of your choosing.
Curious because I want to 100% make sure if I get there, there is no possibility of rejection, and to make sure I have everything.

Expect someone to poke inside your car looking for stow-a-ways. There will be a quick, cursory look for contraband stuff, but not a deep probing. (unless you want a deep probing) They will also note that you have all your essentials for the week. If your car is mostly empty, they may ask if you're meeting people who have your supplies. Since you can't buy anything at this event, they may suggest to turn around and buy your stuff and come back. They are only there to help, not hassle you.
If you give the police any cause to to stop you, expect to have your car ripped apart---so to speak. Try not to do anything that would cause the police to stop you.

Also when purchasing tickets, do you get a confirmation # sent via email? How long does it take for the purchase to process? Also how fast do tickets usually sell out at the different ticket sales?

That includes obscuring your license plate with a bike rack.

If you have a bike rack on your car, be sure that you can clearly see the license plate on the car, or move the plate onto the bike so it can be seem. If you don't it gives the police a shabby, lame reason to stop you.skiace22 wrote:wdym?
