Flights in and out of Reno

Post by Eladimir » Thu Mar 01, 2018 2:09 pm

Got my ticket, now to figure out how to get there from Canada! Looking to fly into and out of reno and burner bus in.

Anyone have any idea when the burner bus 2018 schedule would be released?
Or is it pretty safe to assume there will be bus rides Aug 26,27,28 and back out the monday?

Lastly any advice on flights from those who have done it? Come in a day early and hotel over night? Book the flight a day late so you can hotel and sleep and clean (seems like a good idea)

Here's a link for ya. Should have everything you need. They are the 2017 dates but the days are going to be the same this year. Friday before the event is still Friday before the event.

I'd book at least 1 night at a hotel before and after the event. Time schedules don't really exist well on the Playa so it's good to have some leeway before your flight home.

I frequently fly through Calgary on the way to Reno. There are many flight options.

I fly down from Saskatoon. So, I recommend that yes, you arrive a day early. That will give you a chance to get a decent sleep, then go pick up the supplies/stuff you need for your burn. I haven't tried to go into BRC on opening day/night for about 8 years - so, I have no idea how long it now takes (last time I drove in on opening night, you could still buy tickets at the gate).

As far as leaving, book your flight for the next day, and try to make it after noon. You will probably need a decent sleep before flying back to reality.

Last year, I was on the pavement at 6PM on Monday - got into Reno after Midnight, had a 6AM flight home. Got about 1 hour sleep (after showering, eating, etc) ... It took 6 hours to do the 2 hour drive into Reno!! Not sure how long it would have taken to just get out of BRC onto the pavement, as I got a ride into Reno with another DPW worker. She had a pass to skip the exodus line, as she was going to Reno for the Org.

Eladimir, are you going to Freezer Burn this June? It is a good intro to the Burning Man culture, without the desert environment ;) I highly recommend it! http://www.freezerburn.org/ The theme this year is "Fighter Jets vs Laser Sharks"
