You'd have better luck banning thumbs. Humans are just tool using apes, and have been slaughtering each other just fine for millions of years without the need for modern tools to do so.

That said, I'd much prefer that, should a fit young man decide to attack one of my friends who's old, or disabled, or just a woman who's 110lbs soaking wet that they have have an effective means of defending themselves available that doesn't rely on brute upper body strength and physical mobility.

As a ex- military police officer my view is the police failed the parkland kids . The fbi was told of his threats on social media, police were called to his home over a dozen times , he was expelled from school for bringing knifes , and he was found mentalily ill and still allowed to buy weapons. Also police on the grounds who did nothing, but let it happen . My weapons at home are a .45 auto , like I had in the service , a .50 cal rifle , black powder , and a .45-70 springfield trapdoor . So you see I dont need the ar15 .
As a M.P. we would sit around ,and talk ,and if no one had weapons only us ,then we would be the target of bad people , no more lone patrols . A small hand made piece could be used by a friendly looking face , and kill us and take our weapons . Bad people will kill no matter what . If they cant get guns they will kill for them .
Also if the police only have guns we will still have men killed in there own back yard cause he had a cell phone Police are the failure here .
