Could this be the year?

Well, hello, all you wonderful, crazy people!

Like so many who have already posted here, my husband and I have long talked about, dreamed about (fantasized about?) attending Burning Man some day. When it was announced that this year's theme is I Robot, - my husband is a major Asimov enthusiast - we knew that this is the year we need to do everything we can to try and make it happen.

Last year was our first experience camping in the desert in Oregon for the eclipse, and we absolutely loved it! I have read, and continue to read, everything I can on being prepared for Burning Man and the challenging conditions of the Black Rock desert. We already have all of our camping gear and shade structure - we would just need to focus on the creative aspects (bike decorating, costumes, etc.) Unfortunately, we were not successful in obtaining tickets in the main sale, but I am determined to remain positive and hopeful that we still make it happen.

We are not planning to join a camp at this time, as we prefer to be independent, however we are open-minded and willing to change our minds on that. My husband is an electrician by trade and I am an accomplished seamstress. We have also been involved with local theater for years, both onstage and behind-the-scenes. We live in Tahoe, and are perfectly willing to help out local groups prior to and during the event.

TahoeMinx, if I may suggest, since I presume you live at or near Tahoe, that isn't very far from the Black Rock Desert, you take a three-day weekend and go out to the playa say in early July and just "give it a test run". Camping in the Oregon desert like you did for the eclipse is, from my experience, nothing like the dust storms, instantly changeable weather, and dryness of the playa. You'll thank me later I'm sure.
