This plan intentionally cannot be used to debate boundaries: we’ve softened the edges of the reserved-placement shading here more than in previous plans, as this zone fluctuates greatly between this initial city plan and the final placed camp plan displayed at the event site.

Translation: we didn't get it done in time, so it could be anywhere. We'll work it on on the playa as it happens.

So much for anyone not in a placed camp making any kind of meaningful plan on where to be.

From what I've heard, the number of camps requesting placement is at an all time high, as well as the camps requesting, but not placed.

That's good, because a camp is a greater commitment to BM and a greater of measured interactivity and cleaning up MOOP. Maybe it is a good way to orient virgins and make connections to them to return year, 2+. Placed camps create a 2 way communication structure between named burners and the BORG. The population is flat, so there is not a shortage of space.

It is a ritual to name the streets and announce the names, just one of those burning culture things.

But this map is weak.

Maybe they are behind because they decided to change camp locations from years past?

As has been mentioned, by gate Placement should be mostly done, so the gate free camping map should be accurate enough. Just remember if free camping, meet your neighbors before becoming too anchored.

The playa events "what, where, when" is an official burning man database which event makers fill.

On-playa app developers https://innovate.burningman.org/ bring that into their app via the playa events API and camp location sources.

SSE, you kno I love you dearly, but that there paragraph has a half dozen threads worth of debate in it.

It almost needs a “wall of wrong” kind of threadage...

Even in the 2000s most theme camps were garbage land grabs.

Half the damn party is virgins every year so plain ole maths tells you most do not return - BM has become a bucket list item for half the attendees.

The two-way communication gizmo is called directed ticket sales, not some desire to rock the interactive thing.

Hahaha, Mr Token is correct, that short paragraph was pure editorial on my part! Readers who disagree can simply read the rest of the post without it. The intent was to provide my personal theory of explanation for the first sentence.

There is a good argument that the smartphone is not the right tool to find camps/events, or should be used very sparingly if at all. Good luck with that!
